“Over the course of all seasons?” I’m stalling. We’re a large cast, of course the number’s going to be high.
“Forget the exact number, just give me a percentage.”
That’s no better. Shit. “Maybe seventy percent.”
She nods. “What about romantic relationships between doctors and patients? Have any of those in the show?”
I don’t like where this is going. “Yes.” That’s all I’m saying. No way I’m telling her we’ve run that storyline more than once. Especially not telling her one of those involved my character.
Her serious expression is still in place, but she’s working to maintain it. The gleam in her eyes gives her away. “We’re almost done, but as your healthcare professional, I should warn you—this part is going to hurt.”
“Are you always this way?”
“Right about everything, and thoroughly enjoying proving it?”
I grunt a laugh and shake my head. “Sarcastic.”
“About as frequently as your award-winning, prime-time doctors and nurses get romantically involved with each other.” She’s not even trying to hold back her amusement now. A full-on, gorgeous smile lights her face.
“Oh, man. You look like a gambler holding the unbeatable, winning card, just itching to clean out every player at the table.”
“I do enjoy winning,” she says. “On that note, my last question is, do the doctors and nurses on your show ever have sex in the hospital during their shift?”
Fuck.“Yes.”
She claps her hands above her head as if she really did just win a jackpot. “Based on the results of today’s tests, there’s only one diagnosis. You’re the star of an award-winning, prime-time, medicalsoap opera.”
Nobody likes being proven wrong. Watching Chloe enjoy the moment makes it totally worthwhile.
“That was better than a morning espresso,” she says, leaning on the back of the couch. “What did you come over here for, anyway?”
“To take you to breakfast.”
“It’s nine-thirty. Kind of late for breakfast.”
“Then I’m here to take you to the pool.” Am I hoping she owns the world’s tiniest bikini? Yes. Yes, I am.
“No thanks. Lying around makes me twitchy.”
I’m not even a little surprised to hear that. “Then I’m here to take you hiking, paddleboarding, ziplining, or mountain biking. Your choice.”
She raises one dark eyebrow at me. “Pretty strenuous activities to do on an empty stomach.”
“You said you’ve had breakfast.”
“I’m not worried about me, Eli. I’ve already proven you wrong once today. I’d hate to make you feel worse by leaving you in my dust out there.”
Just looking at her coy smile makes me hard.Harderis more accurate. My cock hasn’t gone below half-mast since I stepped onto her porch. I close the distance between us, bracketing her between my arms when I brace them on couch’s back, alongside her hands. “Don’t worry about my stamina, sweetheart. Anything you want to do, I promise I can keep up, and last as long as you need me to.”

I chose ziplining.Not randomly, I used logic.
Mountain biking would’ve been too sweaty. I haven’t decided if I’m going to invite Eli into my lady cabin this week, but seeing me dripping with exertion sweat could prevent him from knocking on the door.
Paddleboarding was out for the opposite reason. Pretty sure if I see Eli’s sexy bared body up close again, my brain won’t have a vote in the will-we-or-won’t-we decision. Hiking is too close-contact, too intimate. I’m not ready to share several hours of close-proximity, one-on-one conversation. Or find out we have nothing to talk about.
