It took a while for her mom to come around and forgive me for everything, which I can’t blame her for even if it wasn’t my fault, but now we’re good. Me and her get on like a house on fire. I wouldn’t change my new extended family for anything in the world.
“Mya is having a great time with Uncle Luke and Uncle Wyatt at the moment,” Grayson laughs. “That kid really has melted everyone’s hearts. You’re lucky to have her.”
We haven’t told anyone yet, it’s going to be an announcement we make later on, but me and Lexi are about to get even luckier. Not that it’s a surprise this time around. I mean, we can’t keep our hands off of one another, it’s crazy. Our family is soon going to get even bigger when our new baby is born. We still have six months, Lexi is barely even showing, but I am over the moon. I’m so excited. This time I will be there for everything, from the very start. I’ve done what I can to make things up for Mya, but I’m thrilled for a second chance.
And to think I was only going to sweep through Beaufort on my way to New York City. I only planned to be in town for Luke’s graduation party.
Now it’s my life. And what a life it is.
“Well, Mya’s uncles better enjoy the time they can get with her, because once Mom spots Mya, it’s over for everyone else,” I laugh. “You know what she’s like.”
Not that anyone can blame my mom for the way she is with Mya.
It’s all love. She missed out on Mya’s early years as well, not that she’s mad at Lexi. Once we cleared everything up and explained what had happened, everyone was clear. Although it took a little while for Wyatt to stop blaming his past self because of the issues he had when he was younger.
I don’t want him to ever feel that way.
To me, it seems like everything worked out in the end, just as it was supposed to. Just because it was a bumpy road to get there, doesn’t change my happiness at all. It makes me appreciate every single day so much more.
“Yeah, true,” Grayson agrees. “So, you might want to get out there before it all goes to chaos. Everyone is waiting to see the handsome groom in his tux.”
Now I know that isn’t true. Everyone wants to see the bride, which is why we have decked out our backyard in such a fancy way. We all want to see Lexi underneath that arch of flowers, saying her vows.
I’m just the other guy there. Not that I mind. After the incredible way that Lexi has brought up our daughter on our own, and gone on to love me even though I might not exactly deserve it, she deserves a special day like this.
I just hope that she’s happy, and that joy stays with us forever.
Not that I can imagine losing it now. We have absolutely everything going for us.
“Come on then, best man,” I tease. “Let’s go and meet my other best men out there and get this party started. Like you said, everyone is waiting.”
I couldn’t pick just one of my brothers; they are all special to me in so many ways. So they are all my best men. I might have even been closest to Grayson when we were younger, but me and Wyatt spend a lot of time together now, and Luke has always been awesome at helping me to put things into perspective. I don’t think he knows how much his words helped me before he went off to Thailand.
He helped me and Lexi more than he will ever know.
So I want them all up there with me as I say my vows and scream from the rooftops that I have found the love of my life.
Me and Grayson head outside to the chaos. He’s right, it is madness but in the best way possible. Everyone is chatting and laughing, getting along well, excited for what the day will bring. I feed off the energy surrounding me, amping me up further.
Grayson settles the crowds down while I wait at the end of the aisle. Everyone whispers words of reassurance to me, but I already know that nothing will settle down until I see Lexi. My home, my light, my love. She is the beacon in the storm, beckoning me towards her no matter what I’m going through.
I know that once I see Lexi, everything else will melt away and it will only be the two of us. I love it when we get shrouded in that bubble, it’s my happy place.
The music starts up.
My heart starts beating faster.
It’s time. Finally, it’s time.
I wait impatiently until I can finally see my beautiful bride in her dress.
I’ve been dreaming of this day for ages now, ever since I proposed four months ago, so to have it finally here is mind blowing. I can’t keep still; I hop foot to foot until finally, a glimmer of white catches my eyes.
Oh my God.
I’m speechless, my jaw actually hangs open as she comes in to view in the sweetest, most elegant ivory gown I have ever seen in my life, it fits her perfectly, making her look exactly like the princess I imagined she would be today.
Happy tears are already flooding my eyes. There is no way I’m going to be able to hold it together. I’m going to be sobbing with joy by the time I actually have to speak aloud. But I don’t care, I don’t mind how much I crumble. I’m the luckiest man alive and I know it.
