I justknowshe’s going to be a serious hottie, and I can’t wait to start flirting with her…

Oh my God. Holy shit. Is that who I think it is? For real?

My expectations have been high, butthisis something I wasn’t expecting. I guess because I’ve been out of Beaufort for too long. I need to get used to small town America if I’m going to be back. Where everyone knows everyone. But still…

Oh my God. It’s Lexi Brunson. A face I didn’t eventhinkI would ever see again. I mean, she isn’t exactly someone that I had spent a lot of time with before, but I do know we had one amazing, unforgettable night during which she blew my fucking mind. My lips curl up into a smile just recalling the details of that night.

It wassomuch fun. One of the best nights of my life actually, I remember wishing it had happened sooner so we could have had more time and fun together. Weeks and months of it, but obviously I had London to get to.

Didn’t she tell me that she was leaving too? I don’t remember much, but I’m pretty sure she and a friend were off to LA to do their thing. She didn’t tell me everything because we didn’t have time, but the more that I think about it, the more sure I am.

Lexi had big plans as well.

So, why the hell is she here? And my God, who the hell could have predicted that she was going to bloom in such a way?

Whew, wow, I am blown away. Now that I know who she is, I’m even more determined to have fun with her. She actually does have those plump lips I was just fantasizing about.

I stuff my hands into my pockets, wondering how I can get Wyatt to invite the whole team out to lunch. Including the new girl who he hasn’t yet hired. I’m going to convince Wyatt that this is the girl to work for him, because I’ll have endless access to her while I’m here. I can visit my brother and flirt with the sexy Lexi.

This day just got a whole lot better, didn’t it? I actually can’t wipe the smile off my face. My imagination is getting the better of me and I amreallyexcited.

“Hi there.” I stick my hand out for her to shake with the hope that she’ll remember me. I’m sure she will, right? Because she did say that she’d always had a crush on me, so she’s bound to.

She has to, or this is about to get really embarrassing…

“How are you, Lexi?”

ChapterFour

LEXI

Shit.

No way, there isno waythat I’m actually looking at Josh Macauley. It just isn’t happening, it can’t be. As if it isn’t bad enough facing Wyatt today. I didn’t think I’d be able to handle it, but somehow I actually managed to conduct myself in a very professional way, by completely ignoring the past, of course, and I think might have gone well. I don’t know if I’ll get the job, because this place iswaytoo cool for someone like me, but at least it was good practice.

I have more confidence now moving forwards.

Or at least I did, until this moment. Now I’m a fucking wreck.

Five years. It’s been five long years since I last saw this man, and my life has completely changed because of him and that one shared night.

From the moment I sat in a public bathroom peeing on that pregnancy stick because I was late and something didn’t feel quite right with my body, to now. This very second when I find him staring at me expectantly, waiting for an answer.

“Er, hi.” My throat feels dusty so the words that come out are strange sounding. Not quite my voice at all. “Nice to see you again, Josh.”

I take his hand and shake it, but the fizzle of electricity that explodes in my body isn’t a pleasant one. This is the most uncomfortable that I have ever felt in my life. My eyes run all over his face, waiting for some kind of reaction as he stares at me. I know he must have a million and one questions about everything, but I really hope he doesn’t ask them here.

I can’t talk to him about Mya and the last five years here, no way.

Oh God, what am I going to do if he’s come back for her? If he has decided thatnowhe wants to get to know her? I probably should have had a plan in place for this, but I never did because I just thought that he would be in London forever.

Since Wyatt knew about Mya and his family never got in touch with me, I had to assume that I was a seedy secret none of them wanted to acknowledge.

So what the hell will I do if all that has changed?

The walls feel like they are closing in on me. It’s getting so tight now I can barely breathe. Does he know what he’s doing to me right now? Is this all a game?

I’m weak at the knees. All I want to do is run the hell away from Josh so I don’t have to deal with any of this. I should have known that waking into the lives of any of the Macauley brothers wouldn’t end well for me.
