Today isDay 7--or what I’ve been referring to in my own mind, D-Day, aka Done Day.

Like every morning since I agreed to this brief fling, I carefully slip from my bed so I don’t disturb the slumbering bear next to me. Devin wasn’t exaggerating when he promised to work hard during the day and even harder at night. He has ten times the work ethic of a lot of men twice his age. He probably would’ve had the landscaping job done a couple days ago if he didn’t take so many sex breaks. He really is a Sex Hobbit.

As I pad my way out to the kitchen, I pull on my favorite of Devin’s huge, threadbare T-shirts. It’s soft, hits me at mid-thigh, and smells like him. I already plan on “misplacing” it before he leaves tomorrow morning. A girl’s gotta have a souveneir to remember the best sex week of her life, right?

I get to work making coffee and getting everything I need to make him breakfast. I swear, the man eats enough for three people, but after making some adjustments to my weekly grocery run, I’ve really enjoyed cooking for him. It always seems like such a hassle to dirty a kitchen for just myself, so I tend to snack more than bother with meals. Then at night, if he’s done working outside in time, he helps me prepare dinner because he likes cooking, too. It’s one of probably a dozen things we’ve discovered we have in common over the past week.

We both love movies and grunge music from the 90s. I’m not big into weights, but I do run a few times a week, so we’ve done that together, which is fun. We usually play in the pool at night, which also usually ends up with us “playing” in the pool, and even if we’re just sitting on a lounge chair together and staring up at the stars, I’ve had some of the most interesting conversations with him about anything and everything.

There are so many more layers to Devin “All-American” Adler than I ever expected. Which is why I’m going to miss this--miss him--once he leaves. But we were never meant to be more than temporary. Sure, our passion is intense and our chemistry is insane, but that’s not something you base a longterm relationship on. Besides, he’ll be at Notre Dame in another month and hopefully I’ll get good news about that job I interviewed for. I know Devin’s going to go on to do great things someday, and I couldn’t be happier for him.

At least, that’s what I keep telling myself. Maybe I’ll even believe it one of these times.

“You look way too serious for this early in the morning.”

He slides his arms around my waist and I naturally relax into his chest and push my fingers into the back of his hair. “And what exactly does too serious look like on me?”

His thumb rubs the spot between my eyebrows. “When you think too much, you get a wrinkle above the bridge of your nose.”

I gasp dramatically. “Is that some kind of crack about my old age?”

Devin’s
