He was on his knee, his beautiful, familiar face turned up to mine. “Whitney Bryant, love of my life, I want, more than anything else in this world, is for you to welcome our baby into the world with my ring on your hand. I want to face every trial, enjoy every moment from here on with you as my wife. Will you marry me?”

There was a ring in his fingers, a single bright solitaire winking back at me.

My chest was aching so much I thought it might break open, the joy welling up inside of me too big to contain. Us. Forever.

My eyes filled with tears. “Yes, Emerson. A hundred times yes.”

And then he was standing, pulling me as close as my belly would allow. I yanked him down, ignoring the pang in my belly, as my favorite pair of lips brushed against mine.

Emerson sighed against my mouth, pulling away to fit the ring over my finger and press down. “Now we are ready to go.”

I gulped, stepping back as my belly panged again. A nervous laugh slipped out. “That’s probably good, because I think my water just broke.”

Emerson’s jaw dropped like a stone, and for a moment, I almost laughed at the look. I’d never seen the man panic before.

“Whitney. What do I do?”

I pressed a hand up and covered his lips, cringing a little as my belly tightened once more. “Why don’t we just go have this baby?”

His panic vanished and was replaced by a perfect, bright smile. He held out a hand for mine, and I instantly took it.

“Let’s go.”
