“Give her to me.” Dean says again. “And I give you my word… This time, I’ll kill you quickly. You and your brother.”

“Arrogant, isn’t he?” Legion says. “Only one man here, dies tonight, Dean Keegan.” His body shifts slightly, I’m not sure if it’s because of the pain in his side, or if he’s trying to speak more clearly to his brother. His hand remains clamped over my mouth. His other hand, pressed against the side of my belly, clutches the gun he’s got pointed towards Dean. At any second, he could bend his wrist, and that barrel will be pointed right at Ace.

I stare at Dean, waiting for some sign, hoping that if he gives me one, I’ll be able to decipher it.

No… No, I can’t do that… Not with his gun so close to Ace.

“You’ve got seconds to comply, before that promise I made you about dying quickly, is off the table. Once my brothers show up… I’m afraid it’s out of my hands.” Dean warns them.

Legion lets out a low chuckle before he sighs, in what sounds like defeat. “Walk slowly to your lover, sweet one.” I feel his mouth press softly to my ear against my hair as he whispers, “I keep all of my promises, tonight. This will all be over soon.”

“What?” the monster shouts as Legion’s arm drops from around me.

Even Dean seems surprised. But his expression hardens instantly with intense suspicion. Legion appears to be giving up, far easier than anyone imagined.

“This isn’t part of the plan!” The monster shrieks again.

Legion’s hand gently presses against my back, urging me to take a few cautious steps towards Dean, who hasn’t lowered his gun, but I know he won’t shoot. And though I can’t see Legion behind me, I’m sure he still has his gun pointed right back at Dean. I’m still a shield for him.

I keep all my promises tonight… Legion’s words repeat in my mind as I walk slowly towards Dean’s outstretched hand.

I’m afraid which promises those might be…
