“Take Serene for a ride now.” She says, shimmying out of her torn panties. She holds them up for a moment, showing me my handywork as she giggles at the now useless garment. “I’ll see you both at home.” She chucks them into the trash can as she makes her way towards the door, grabbing her purse from the work bench as she passes. She stops to glance over her shoulder at me, where I’m still dazed, sitting on an idling Serene. With a sassy little smirk, scowling playfully, she warns me, “Now that Serene is back, you better not ever call out another woman’s name when you’re inside me, again.”

I can’t help but grin back at her as I sigh, “Aces, baby.”

She gives me one last little wink, before the door closes behind her.

Killing the engine on the bike and dismounting, I watch Vanna’s headlights cut across the back of my shop from the half open garage door facing my lot.

Since I can only ride one bike home, and it would disappoint my bride to be, if that bike wasn’t Serene, I push the garage door open and swap places with my side chick and Serene.

Attempting to ignore the sudden onset of nerves, I lock up the garage and mount Serene once again. With a little silent prayer, I hit her starter and twist the throttle, hoping for that familiar feeling of serenity she once gave me…

Vanna made a valiant effort tonight. And if I have to pretend for her, I will. I will call this bike by Serene’s name, though… “I want it to be you, baby.” I say out loud. “Please, let it be you. Come back to me…”

I fight the doubt in the back of my mind that wants to stifle the hope I have in my heart, that she’s returned to me.

Then the bike stalls out…

The fuck?

No motorcycle of mine has ever stalled out on me. There’s no reason this one should have either.

This time, she doesn’t even kick over when I hit the starter.

I dismount to check the throttle cable. Perhaps Vanna and I somehow managed to kick it out of adjustment. Upon inspection, everything is just as it should be. Grabbing her handle bars, I mount her once more and try again. She won’t go.

“Fuck, Serene… Are you pissed at me?” I run my hand through my hair as I rack my brain for a possible cause. “You were running just fine five minutes ago.” I try again, this time she starts up, but stalls shortly after. “Come on, Serene… Don’t do this to her.” I let out a frustrated sigh. “She blames herself for what happened to you… Even though it was my own fucking fault I left you alone in the lot. I’m sorry. I’ve told you a million times over, I’m fucking sorry!”

As if she’ll reply…

When I hit the starter, the radio turns on as well, and a song I’m unfamiliar with comes through her speakers. A female voice singing “Legends never die...”

This time when I twist her throttle, she doesn’t stall out and we barrel out of the gates into the city streets beyond.

It’s as if nothing was ever wrong with the bike. A total fluke.

“Does this mean I’m forgiven?” I ask, accelerating her speed.

She gives me no issues, her engine roaring like the bad ass bitch Serene’s always been, and we glide over the asphalt towards the highway. An excitement I haven’t felt since before her destruction, courses through me once again.

Serene and I decide to take the long way home tonight.
