“Hang on a sec.” Viking says. “If you take one of his tools… he’s gonna notice it’s missing as soon as he opens the door.”

“Fair point.” I mutter.

“He got a lot of anything in there?” Viking asks. I arch a brow at his question. “I mean, like crystals? Tumbled ones or any that are smooth and would be easy to lift prints off?”

“Yeah… there are crystals in here. Couple of rocks and bones.”

“Maybe take one of those instead. Just saying. If you don’t want him to suspect anything yet. I’d go for something he ain’t gonna notice right off the bat.”

Jason hands me an evidence bag and I chose a pair of tumbled stones, dropping them inside.

“How long is this process gonna take?” I ask.

“The actual process of running a scan isn’t that long. We’ve gotten results as soon as a few hours. Sometimes it takes a few days. But it isn’t long, once we get a clear set lifted and scanned.” Jason says. “Scanning a set of prints and comparing them to another set in our possession, can take as little as ten seconds once we upload them to the program.”

“So, I’ll know in a matter of seconds, if Legion’s prints are on that letter.” At least there’s that.

Jason nods. “If he’s got a criminal record, we’ll know who he is within a few days. Just depends on when my buddy can get to it.”

“I’ll make it worth his while.”

“He owes me a favor, don’t worry about it.” Jason looks at me curiously. “Earlier, you mentioned you may need to call in another favor. What is it?”

“That depends on who Legion is.” I say.

I really don’t want to have to involve Jason in this ordeal any more than I absolutely have to. The last thing I want to do, is kick a sleeping monster in the desert and draw its attention towards North Carolina…

“Let’s slit that throat when we get to it.”
