I trace my hand over his thick biceps and down his carved chest until my fingertips reach the V that’s cut into his muscles. If I could have taken every last minute we had and spent it memorizing his body, it still wouldn’t be enough.

He pulls one of my thighs up and grinds his dick against the wetness between my legs.

“I’m not ready to get back to reality,” he says, rubbing his erection against my clit.

“Then let’s not go just yet.”

His body strikes mine like a match, and I’m certain I could lie in this bed in a blaze until we burn what’s left, waiting for the universe to turn me to ash or swallow me whole for giving into the temptation. It was almost impossible to come back from Carson the first time, and after this week, I might as well give up, because I have no chance of putting myself back together.

Carson rolls me onto my back without breaking our kiss, his mouth fighting for my air. I reach down and grab onto the base of his length, dragging my hand up and down it between us. His thickness against my skin makes the walls inside my body start to shake.

He reaches for the bedside drawer and pulls out the tiny foil packet. When he hands it to me, I slowly roll the condom over his shaft and guide him to my entrance. He thrusts in with a growl, and his teeth bite down on my bottom lip.

I tuck my legs up to take him deeper, and he hits that spot that makes my insides quake. Hard and steady, sinking deeply and then slowly back out again, knowing each pump drives me closer to the edge.

“Mon,” he says, and I realize my head’s tipped back in pleasure. “I—”

But he doesn’t finish the sentence. We just stare into each other’s eyes, both knowing the words that are hanging on his tongue have the power to change whatever this is. So instead, he thrusts into me harder and dives his rough chin into the corner of my neck. I wrap my legs and arms around him, clinging on as he pushes us further.

Adrenaline pumps as we stand on the edge. I scrape my nails down his back in an effort to grasp harder, and his teeth bite into the skin at the base of my neck in response. It’s the fuse that sets us both off.

I love you.

The words are on the tip of my tongue, begging to break free. But I don’t let them.

Carson releases into me as I clench around him, holding on tighter in an effort to prolong the moment. Grasping for straws when we both know we’re letting go.

“Youcrazykidsbegood.” Agnes gives Monica a hug, and then she looks at me. “Don’t do anything we wouldn’t do.”

“Which is?” I smirk at her.

Nadine swats me on the arm before pulling me into a hug. Then she releases me to give Agnes her turn.

“Maybe if we’re lucky you’ll join us again sometime,” Agnes says. “This was one of the tamer conferences, after all. You should have been there for the one in Vegas.”

“I wonder if you’re still banned from that strip club?” Nadine laughs, and for the first time all week I think maybe it’s a good thing we were stranded in the middle of the desert.

“As fun as this was”—I try really hard to not look Monica in the eyes—“I don’t know the next time I’ll be at one of these. Still not a romance writer.”

“You’re welcome either way.” Agnes drags me into another bear hug, her hands running dangerously close to my ass as sheaccidentallygrazes my cheeks before she pulls away. “Well, you have my number, so if you ever make it up to my neck of the woods, you better call me.”

She gives my bicep a squeeze before turning to Monica and shooting her a wink. “And ifyoudecide to make a trip, dear, we’ll introduce you to Ricardo.”

Monica’s eyes go wide, and Nadine fans herself.

Ricardo? Who the fuck is that?

I’m already not thrilled about the fact that Monica and I are about to shoot out of the airport in two different directions, but there’s already aRicardowaiting for me to step aside and make room? I clench my hands into fists so I don’t break something.

“I’ll keep that in mind,” Monica says, and it churns my gut. “I appreciate you ladies, and if you’re ever in Seattle, you know who to reach out to.”

“Count on it.” Agnes smiles and grabs her bag.

“See you on the flip side, or whatever you kids are saying nowadays.” Nadine presses her sunglasses up her nose and disappears down the hall in a fit of laughter over something Agnes said.
