“Do you have plans tonight?” he whispered in her ear, his voice gravelly and deep.
“I was just going to go home.”
He caressed the side of her face, his thumb outlining the curve of her chin. She leaned longingly into his touch. “How about you come to my place? I can order us some dinner… We can watch a movie?”
She smiled and turned away, wrestling with herself.
Are we going too fast? Am I moving too fast? I know what the hell is going to happen, and it won’t be us watching any damn movie, either.
“I have work tomorrow…” Yeah, that’ll work. I don’t want to seem too easy, ya know? Sure, I’ve been watching sexy cop, bad girl porn all week to tide me over, and giving my poor clit a run for her money, but I have to save my false sense of virtue! Then I can stall and drag out the inevitable… Wait, that sounds so stupid. Well, I’ve said it now. Might as well stay true to it. Stick to my guns!
“What does that have to do with you having a little dinner with me tonight? It’s food. A movie.” His brow rose and his lips curled. She knew better. He knew better. And yet, here they were, skirting around the issue and toying with one another.
“What about my car?” She pointed in the general direction of it. It sat there, covered in snow, looking sad and deserted.
“Follow me to my place. I will do the same when it’s time for you to go home after we eat. I’ll escort you.”
“Like the cops at a funeral procession? I get an attendant, hey? That probably wasn’t the best analogy considering there are more than likely quite a few casualties tonight and—”
“I’m serious. I came up here because I wanted to see you were okay. It’s the wrong night to get stranded. I want to make sure you get home safe.” He pointed at his vehicle. She frowned.
“What’s with the long face?”
“Oh, I’m disappointed.”
“Disappointed in what?”
“I was hoping you’d be in your police cruiser. I wanted it to look like I was an important person getting a police escort home. Local royalty.”
Snickering, he leaned in and kissed her cheek, then walked away towards his ride.
“Felicity, come on, let’s go. I’ll go slow. Wouldn’t want you to slip away from me…”
After picking uptheir food from Penn Station East Coast Subs, they arrived at his home in separate cars. He turned off the alarm, switched on the lights, turned up the heat, and told her to make herself comfortable while he got out of his uniform into something cozy.
An eight-inch cheesesteak sandwich with sautéed banana peppers and onion filled her belly as she lounged on the man’s big, comfy couch. Shoes off, legs across his couch, she slurped on the straw of her Coke.
Brett’s home was lovely—modern on the inside, with nice appliances and bright neutral shades of gray and white. He had decent art for a bachelor, and she liked that there were a few live plants, too. When he returned, she licked her chops…
Damn.
There he was in a black tank top and baggy matching jogging pants. His brawny arms were exposed for her viewing pleasure, elaborate tattoos going up and down his biceps, gripping the tendons and stretching over tanned flesh in black, red, and blue ink. She noticed his dark chest hair, too, showing a bit above the collar of the shirt. He was now barefoot, and his feet were big. Big hands, too. Big… Oh my, she prayed that it was big, too…
“I’ll throw on some shoes and socks, and my coat when it’s time to get you back home.”
Likely story, Brett. You have no intentions of me going home tonight, but that’s fine. We can both keep playing this mating game for as long as it takes.
The entertainment began as soon as they sat down and nestled up on the couch.
They were watching ‘Super Bad’, and not one of them had stopped laughing for longer than thirty seconds as the movie unfolded just as she remembered, scene by scene.
“This is a classic!” she bellowed.
“You’re damn right!”
“Brrrrp!” She belched. “Hmm, the Coke has gotten me, taken me asunder! Unhand me, you vile gas that has emitted from my full stomach, and out of my mouth!”
Instead of feeling abashed, humiliated, or the need to offer a silly girly laugh followed by an insincere apology, she owned it. After all, the man had found a fried squirrel under her hood, as well as a masturbation toy in her car, all before the first date. Embarrassment?! Psst! I’m not new to this, I’m true to this!
