Mercy: Are you hard for me, Dr. Lexington?

Me: Always, you dirty girl.

Mercy: Good. I love your hard cock.

Me: I said I’d give you your fantasy tonight and I will. But not before I spank your naughty ass.

Mercy: Promises, promises…

Me: I have to work now, but please remember that I have never broken a promise to you. Your ass will be red tonight, a delicious shade of red.

Mercy: I look forward to it, Dr. Lexington.

Mercy: I mean, no, please God, no.

I chuckle, this woman is everything to me, but she drives me insane in the best possible way.

Twenty-One

LIAM

I spendmost of the day checking on patients, and luckily, it’s boring. That’s the way I prefer it, no excitement is a good thing. I have a feeling my evening will be exciting enough.

After stopping by the nurse’s station, I head into Ivy’s room. She’s doing well, I’m thrilled that she hasn’t been as sick as I expected this time. Although, that could change in an instant. I’ve seen it many times before. The small amount of hair she grew back, started to thin again, so I expect it’ll fall out completely, which is difficult for any girl.

“Dr. L!” She yells as she moves trying to look behind me.

“She’s not with me, Ivy. You’re driving the nurse crazy, you know? I’m told you have asked seven times when she’s coming in?”

Tears roll down her cheeks as she gazes down at her lap, rubbing the material of her hospital gown, “I’m sorry.”

I sit beside her bed, “Talk to me, Ivy. Why are you crying?”

She intakes a shaky breath, “None of you know what this is like. It’s lonely here. I don’t have anyone anymore. Only Mercy. When she visits me…”

“Tell me, Princess.”

“I forget I have cancer. She makes everything better. I forget about my mom. I forget about the fosters. It’s the only time I can be happy.”

Taking her hand in mine, I give myself a moment to get my emotions under control. But I get it, I understand exactly what she’s saying. Mercy does the same thing to me; she makes me forget every bad thing. She’s a bright light in my dark world.

“That’s a special talent of hers, she makes everything better, doesn’t she?”

Swiping at her tears with her other hand, “I wish she was my mom.”

This little girl gets to my heart like no other patient has before.

I hear a gasp behind me and turn to see Mercy standing there.

She obviously heard what Ivy said to me. I get out of the chair and motion for her to sit in my place.

“Someone has been dying to see you.”

Ivy giggles, “I don’t think you’re supposed to say dying in a hospital, Dr. L.”

As soon as she spotted Mercy, the tears stopped and were replaced with a beaming smile.

“I’ll see you beautiful ladies a little later,” I say as I give Mercy a wink.
