A shocked expression crosses my face as he nods and then turns to Ivy.

“I was thinking, Princess, how would you like to get out of the hospital for the day?”

“Really?” she asks.

“Really.”

“Will Mercy take me?”

He grins, “Well, of course, but I was hoping you might let me tag along,” he states with an enormous smile.

Ivy gazes down at her lap, sadness appears to suddenly consume her.

“What is it?” I ask.

“I don’t have anything to wear. I only have a hospital gown.”

Liam narrows his eyes at her, “Did you think I wouldn’t be prepared?” He gets up and walks out of the room when he returns Ivy’s face lights up like a damn Christmas tree.

“Every Princess needs a dress,” he says.

She absolutely gleams as she takes it in.

It’s a light blue dress with a sheer overlay that has sparkles all over it. It reminds me ofFrozen, and I know it reminds Ivy of it too.

He even got her matching slip-on light blue shoes, the softest shoe I’ve ever seen. They look like ballet slippers.

“Mercy, can you help her get dressed?”

I nod, “Yes, doctor, of course.”

He winks at me again, and I melt.

After I help her get dressed, we walk into the hall and Liam says, “Alright, let’s go.”

As we walk down the hall to go outside, I ask, “Are you going to get into trouble for this?”

He shrugs his shoulders, “I don’t think so, but I really don’t care. It’s better to ask forgiveness than to ask for permission.”

“I’ll have to remember that sir.”

“Sure. Just remember for you forgiveness only comes after punishment. Good girls get rewarded, bad girls get punished.”

I sigh, his words get me every single time. Every time he says that to me, I get a tingle that runs straight to my core.

We step outside, and Ivy spins around, “Oh my God. I’m outside,” a tear rolls down her cheek.

“Today, we forget about cancer and treatment, the hospital, everything. We will celebrate your birthday; you were too sick to celebrate. You will have to go back tonight and start treatment tomorrow, but we won’t think about that today, okay?” He said with a serious expression.

She wraps her arms around him, squeezing him tight, “Thank you, Dr. L!”

“Let’s go have lunch and then we will figure out where else we will go.”

We get into the vehicle and Liam drives us to a restaurant with an outdoor patio.

“I thought eating outside might be nice since she’s been cooped up inside for so long,” he says.

“So thoughtful, Dr. Lexington.”
