Sitting beside Liam, he rests his hand on my leg.

“You want to adopt, Ivy?”

I nod, “Yes, very much.”

“How much longer will she be in the hospital?”

I look at Liam. That’s a question only he can answer.

“We will do another pet scan in two weeks. Until then, it’s just a guess.”

“Alright. We will need to schedule a home study. Are you planning on adopting her before you get married?” Cyrus asks.

“I don’t want her to go to a foster home.”

“What if you were the foster home? And filed for adoption as soon as you get married?”

The thought of Ivy not being in the hospital, and instead here with us, has me overcome with emotion.

I nod, “That would be perfect.”

“I’ll schedule the home study today. You should have a room set up for her before they come out.”

Liam states, “I’ll take care of it today,” he glances at me, “Princesses.”

She’s going to love it. That girl loves princesses more than she loves anything in this world.

“I’ll call you to let you know when it’s scheduled.”

He stands and shakes Liam’s hand, and he smiles at me and leaves.

“Do you think you can manage being alone for just a little while today? I’ll pick up some bedding for Ivy?”

I smile, “Yes. Or I could go with you?”

He shakes his head, “No. Not yet. You need to stay home and rest.”

I sigh, “Yes, Daddy.”

“Good girl, God, I love you so much.”

“Hurry back, I’ll miss you.”

Grinning at me, he says, “I’ll miss you too, dirty girl.”

He gets up and leaves, and I watch him go, and my heart is full of promise for the future. I go to the kitchen and clean up the breakfast dishes. I hear the door open, and spin around thinking he must’ve forgotten something.

My mouth falls open as my heart races, “Nash.”

“I thought he’d never leave,” he says with an evil expression, “Now, you’re mine.”

LIAM

I’m excitedas I pull into the driveway with all the princess shit. Mercy will love it, which is my favorite thing in the world, making my girl happy. I glance toward my front door, and it’s wide open. What the hell have I told her about that? The door stays closed and locked. She’s not supposed to open it, even if she’s sure it’s me. We will have words about this, that is for sure. I don’t know if Nash will ever return, but I don’t want to take the risk. Not when it comes to her. I need to have the code on the door changed.

I walk in, “Mercy, we talked about this,” but I stop in my tracks when I realize my house has been trashed and she’s not here.
