He chuckles, “That sounds like Mercy.”
“I sometimes forget that you know her.”
“Yeah, I know her well. She did work for me. I had to dock her pay more than once for sneaking free dessert to kids when she worked the day shift.” He laughs, “I’m honestly surprised she never caught your eye before that night.”
I lean forward, resting my elbows on my knees, “I don’t remember ever seeing her in the bar before that night. Fuck, she took my breath away.”
“When she’s better, Isabella wants you to bring her over to the house for dinner.”
I smile, “She’d like that. Have they met?”
“Briefly.”
“Take a deep breath, Liam.”
I do, but it doesn’t help.
“Do you want me to call and get an update? I have privileges here, so I’ll be more likely to get information.”
I nod, “Please.”
“I’ll be back,” he gets up and walks away.
This is stupid. I know she’s going to be fine. This girl has me going crazy, that's what it is. Have I gotten that soft? I never thought I had, but Xander has seen a change in me.
He comes back, “She’s fine, stable. They aren’t done with the surgery but she’s okay.”
I nod, “Thanks. Hey, can I ask you something?”
“Sure,” he sits, “Ask away.”
“Do you really think I’ve changed?”
“Yes, you’ve changed.”
I rub my jaw, “I see.”
“Liam, man it’s not a bad thing. Fuck, you were so closed off before her. You’re happy now. Do you think I’m not soft and mushy with Isabella? Of course, I am, she’s the only one I’m like that with.”
“I asked her to marry me.”
“Well, holy shit. Doc Delicious getting married. The nurses will be distraught.”
I can’t help but laugh, “You enjoy that nickname a little too much.”
“Dr. Lexington?”
I stand when Mercy’s doctor is in front of me, “Yes.”
“Everything went fine, she’s in recovery now. Would you like to see her?”
“He can’t spend five minutes without that woman, yes he wants to see her,” Xander blurts out.
She smiles, “I don’t blame you; Mercy is one of my favorite patients when she isn’t being impossibly stubborn. I’ll have a nurse come out for you in a few minutes.”
I nod, “Thank you, Dr. Shein.”
“Are you gonna make it now, jackass?”
