Shewas the one who’d nearly killed my daughter.

On purpose.

The weight of that hit me in a way it hadn’t before. Like I’d heard the concept and understood it . . . but now I really knew what it meant.

“Where is she?” I growled, shaking Kane.

He blinked at me. “In surgery.”

“No.Her.”

Understanding dawned on his features. “I told Elliott to let her go.”

The words were a slap in the face.

I shook him harder. “Get her back.”

Anger had overtaken my sorrow.

“She’ll go to jail—”

“Get. Her. Back.”

“Barn . . . think about this when you’re calmer.” He spoke far too rationally.

“I’m calm.” I even sounded like it. “I want to see her.”

“I’m not sure that’s the best idea.”

I tightened my fist on his shirt. “She did this.”

“I know. And she will die a slow death locked up.”

That did nothing to soothe this newfound need for vengeance. I didn’t feel like myself. I was a mother on the verge of losing her child.

Peace was not an option.

Forgiveness was impossible.

War.

It’d become a war.

“That’s not good enough,” I snarled. The urge to put my bare hands on her was so strong I could hardly contain it. “If you don’t kill her, I will.”

CHAPTERTWENTY-ONE

KANE

JoJo was gone.

In her place was a woman consumed with a need for vengeance.

The JoJo I knew wouldn’t hurt anyone . . . not permanently.

But no one had ever hurt Penelope.

It was as if something snapped in JoJo and she finally realized exactly what her own sister had done.
