“Doesn’t it feel weird to call them?” Maverick commented. “After everything we’ve done in the past, I never thought we’d officially be on this side of the law. Goes to show you, that you never know.”
“What does he mean, Dad?” Gavin asked.
“Nothing,” Naomi and I replied at the same time.
I cupped her cheek and looked in her blue eyes. “I love you,” I said. To hell with waiting until we were alone. I could have just lost her, and I didn’t want to wait another second to confess how I felt about her.
Her smile was soft and warm. She planted a soft kiss on my lips before replying, “I love you too.”
“Move in with me,” I said, the words just tumbling out. This might not have been the ideal time to ask, but I couldn’t help myself.
“What?”
“I know I offered to take care of you before and you weren’t ready to take me up on it, but we love each other. I’m committed to you. But most importantly, I want you and Gavin there when I wake up in the morning and when I go to bed at night. I need to know you’re safe, and I need you in order to be happy.”
Naomi glanced over at Samantha, who had finally given up fighting against Bones and Maverick. She sat on the edge of Naomi’s bed, pouting while the men stood over her.
Naomi seemed to be almost in a state of shock, which was completely understandable. She could have just died. I could have lost her in an instant. I would have never known how good we could be together. It slammed home, just how much she meant to me.
The idea made me feel lightheaded.
When she finally spoke, Naomi’s voice was slightly shaky, “I guess I do need a new place to live,” she said, “and I need you too.”
I let out a happy whoop and picked her up, spinning her around in a circle and kissing her again.
From where he’d wandered out in the living room, Gavin looked at us like we were crazy.
“You wanna come live with me, G?” I asked.
“Yeah! I’ll go pack.” He took off into his room before we could stop him.
“You know, you can stop working at the strip club now,” I said.
Naomi rolled her eyes. It was nice to see this from her, like she was snapping out of her state of shock. “Didn’t we talk about this?” she asked with a raised eyebrow.
I could see in her eyes though that she wasn’t really going to fight me on it anymore. I had earned her trust, and she would be leaving Sweet Spot. “Tell you what,” I suggested, “I’ll support you for a while if you leave the club, and if you find that you miss stripping, you can feel free to do it just for me.”
Naomi chuckled and it was a purely happy sound. “Okay,” she agreed.
