I lift my hand to smooth my fingers down her cheek.

“You look beautiful, even hungover.”

“You’re a liar, but whatever,” she grumbles, and I laugh as she moves to get her phone, which has quit ringing. When she turns to get on her knees so that she can reach it on the other side of the bed, I smooth my hand over the curve of her round ass.

“Oh no,” she cries suddenly, and my muscles tighten.

“What?”

“I’m supposed to be at breakfast.” She turns around to face me, shoving her phone close to my face. “Mom left a message telling me that breakfast is at ten. It’s ten now.” She drops her phone, then rolls off the bed, searching the floor.

“Your jeans are in the kitchen.”

“In the kitchen?” She looks at the door, and I grin.

“On the way home, you told me in the truck that you were going to rock my world. When we got here, you started stripping down as soon as we walked through the door. Then you passed out as soon as your ass hit the mattress.”

“Oops.” She fiddles with the bottom of the T-shirt I put on her last night, and I laugh.

“It’s all good.” I get off the bed and stop to kiss her before I ask, “Do you want a piece of toast and some Tylenol?”

“That would probably be good.” She follows me out of the room to the kitchen, where she grabs her jeans off the stool and puts them on.

“Remind me to never drink mimosas again.”

“Not sure it was the mimosas that did you in, baby. Pretty sure that was just the icing on the cake.” I put two pieces of bread in the toaster, then grab a glass, fill it with water, and hand it to her.

“Thank you.” She takes a seat on the stool and takes a sip, then rests her hand on her stomach. After I butter the toast, I pass it over to her, then go to the cupboard and grab the pill bottle, take out two, and give them to her.

“Feeling nauseous?” I get close and rest my hand on her belly, and she covers it with her own.

“A little. I don’t know how Cybil dealt with being nauseous for months when she first got pregnant.” A strange sensation fills my chest, and I move my hand and take a step back.

“Eat, and I’ll drive you up to Tanner’s place.”

“Are you going to stay for breakfast with my parents?” she asks, and I hold her gaze for a long moment. Weeks ago I would have said no. Now? Fuck me, I’m in over my head, and I knew I would be the moment I walked up to her car in the middle of a snowstorm and she rolled down her window.

“Do you want me there?”

“Yes.” She nibbles her bottom lip like she’s nervous.

“Then I’ll be there.” I lean in to give her a quick kiss, then head for the bedroom, saying over my shoulder, “While you eat, I’ll get dressed.”

“Okay, just so you know, I’m stealing your shirt.”

“I’ll get it back from you later.”

“You won’t; it’s mine now.” I stop to look at her in my kitchen with her hair a mess around her shoulders and her face still soft from sleep and know right then and there that a lot more than my tee is hers now.

“Yeah, I guess it is.” I rub my chest, and she gives me a smug smile before taking a bite of toast. Yeah, I’m fucked.

Chapter 18

JADE

“Those boys of yours sure are handsome,” Mom whispers as she, Cybil, and I stand outside the store and watch Maverick and Tanner help Dad unload all the boxes from the back of his truck and carry them into the store.

Maybe not surprisingly, Mom and Dad were both thrilled to find out about Maverick and me, especially since they already know and like him. And Cybil shockingly didn’t seem even a little bothered that I had kept Maverick and me a secret. She said while we got a few minutes alone yesterday after breakfast that she’d guessed that there was something going on between us but that she’d figured I was working through my feelings and would talk to her about it when I was ready.

Obviously my best friend is a better person than I am, because I think I would have been in a snit at least for a few days if I found out she was keeping something that big from me. Then again, she probably knows me better than anyone else, which is not only why she understood that I needed time to come to terms with what was happening between Maverick and me but also why she was so insistent on me moving to Montana in the first place. She knew that I would find what she had here. A place where I’m not only accepted for who I am but surrounded by people who are just good people who want the best for me.
