“This, my beautiful soon-to-be sister-in-law, is your half-naked man for the night.” She passes the blow-up doll to Everly, who takes it with no other choice and holds it against her chest. “Now what do you want to drink?”

“Something really, really strong,” Everly says, taking a seat on one of the chairs around the table with her fake man sitting across her lap.

Chapter 17

MAVERICK

“We should have come sooner,” Blake says as we step inside the bar Margret told us she and the girls would be at.

“Is that a blow-up doll?” Tanner asks, as a life-size plastic man floats over the tops of the girls’ heads as they dance in a circle in the middle of a crowded room.

“I’m going to marry that girl,” I absently hear Mason say as I track Jade across the room and watch her smile while she sings along with the song that is playing. Her cheeks are pink from dancing, her body outlined by the tight shirt and jeans she is wearing, while her arms float over her head. Beautiful.

“Let’s let the girls have a little more fun and grab a beer before we let them know we’re here.” Tanner pats me on my back, and I drag my attention off Jade and lift my chin.

“I’m gonna guess that my sister is responsible for this,” Blake says a few minutes later as we head across the room to the table that is surrounded by a multitude of penises.

“She really stuck with the theme.” Mason laughs as Margret spots us and breaks away from the crowd to come join us. The glittery penis crown on her head is half hanging off.

“You’re here.” She falls against Mason, wrapping her arms around his neck before giving him a kiss and picking up one of the drinks that was left on the table.

“You’re not drinking that.” He takes it from her before she can put it to her lips, and she pouts.

“I’m not even that drunk.”

“You are that drunk, but that’s not why you’re not drinking it. Someone could have put something in it while you were out dancing.” He frowns at her. “I hope you girls haven’t been leaving your drinks alone, then coming back to them.”

“This is the first time I’ve been back to the table. Jade was over here earlier, but I don’t know if she was drinking what was left of her drink,” she says, sounding concerned, and I search the dance floor for Jade and find her, Everly, and Cybil together, laughing and singing as they dance to the new song that is playing.

“Let’s get some fresh drinks for you and your girls.” Mason leads Margret to the bar.

“I’m going to rescue my fiancée.” Blake gets up and heads out to the dance floor, where he wraps his arms around Everly’s waist. At first she looks about ready to turn around and kick some ass, but as soon as she finds him, her face lights up, and she spins to face him, wrapping her arms around his neck.

“Are you going to go rescue Cybil?” I ask Tanner, and he shakes his head no.

“She needs this,” he says softly with his gaze on his wife across the room. “A few minutes to just be herself with her best friend.”

I turn to watch the two of them and smile as they grab the blow-up doll and place it between them to dance with it. Then I go still when a man walks up behind Jade and gets close to her back, wrapping his hand around her hip.

“Easy, man,” Tanner says, and I hold steady as a man stands way too fucking close to my woman while she makes it obvious that she’s not interested. When she turns away from him and he reaches around her, grasping her breast roughly, I move, making it across the room in four steps.

“What the fuck?” the guy yells, stumbling to the side and tripping over his own feet when I shove him away from her.

“Come on.” I hold out my hand toward Jade and wiggle my fingers.

“Maverick,” she whispers, her eyes wide as they scan my face.

“What the fuck, man?” is growled from behind me. Then arms go around my waist, and I’m lifted off the ground.

“Put him down,” Jade screams, running toward us with the blow-up doll, its size compared to her almost comical. With one move I get free, but before I can fully turn to face the guy who had his arms around me, Cybil kicks him in the nuts, taking him down to his knees, and Jade starts to hit him with the blow-up doll even as he curls into a ball.

“I don’t know if I should help or if I should laugh my ass off,” Mason mutters, and I shake my head at him while Tanner grabs Cybil around the waist and starts dragging her, kicking and screaming, off the dance floor.
