“Deb, I respect you,” I say, “but that’s the last free shot I’m giving you. You need to get off me. I’m a good husband. You know Sophie’s my entire world. I barely even look at other women.”

“Barely?” Sophie raises her eyebrows, a smile covering her face. “Just for that, I get to order double cheesy bread.”

“Head back down.”

“Fine,” she says, nuzzling her face into my neck.

Bob pulls Deb back from us. “We’ll stay here. I want to see your game tomorrow. Come on, Deb. Let’s get the luggage out of the car. Soph, we’ll keep yours in our room. Text me when you need it.”

“Thanks, Dad.”

As we continue across the lobby, I notice some people snapping pictures of us. “I wonder what story they’ll make up about this. We’re dripping wet and I’m carrying you up to our room.”

“Seb Miller saves wife from drowning after she attacks an innocent bystander.” Sophie laughs as I carry her onto the elevator. “I’m sure it will be good, but at least we won’t have to read Evelyn’s take on it. Millie changed her password and deleted the account. I guess she can start a new one, but she’ll have to start from scratch. She’s lost her thousands of followers. Can you believe it was her? I couldn’t have guessed that if you gave me a million tries.”

“Nothing surprises me anymore. Seriously. I thought I built the wall around me high enough, but apparently I need to build it higher. No one’s allowed in the innermost circle anymore except you.” I press her against the wall of the elevator. “I mean, if you still want to be there.”

“I never left there,” she says, weaving her fingers through my hair as my lips move to her neck. “It’s my favorite place in the world.”
