We leave for the stadium in about an hour for the second game of the series. I haven’t seen Sophie all day. She took the Blitzen crew over to our house to nurse their hangovers at the pool before they head to the game tonight. I just called her to make sure she’s coming to my office again before the game. I barely got a word out before she told me about Sam and Dottie.

“Soph, there’s no way—”

“Seb! He knew her room number,” she says as her eyebrows shoot up. “There’s every way.”

“Well,” I say as I crawl off the couch to get some water. “Good for them, I guess.”

“That’s what Butch said,” she says, giggling. “He wants to buy Sam a beer.”

I haven’t heard her sound this happy in a long time.

“I’m going to buy them both a beer,” I say, plopping back down on the couch. “Still hooking up in their seventies. I’m happy for them.”

“Do you think we’ll still be having as much sex in our seventies?” She walks away from where her phone’s propped up on our kitchen island.

“Definitely,” I say, flipping on the TV. “But honestly, I’m just concentrated on now. I feel like I haven’t touched you in a year.”

“I know, baby,” she says, setting half of a watermelon in front of her as she slides back onto the bar stool. “I miss our morning routine.”

I smile. “The sex or the smoothie I make you afterward?”

“All of the above,” she says, scooping a big chunk of watermelon right out of the rind and shoving it into her mouth. Some of the juice runs down her chin.

“You look happy, babe.”

“I am happy,” she says as she wipes the juice off with her hand. “The party last night was so fun, and today, the same group is over here. They’re so easy to be around. I wish you were here, though. Everyone misses you.”

“Yeah, I wish I was there too.”

“Do you want me to come back to the hotel?” She picks up the phone and looks more closely at me. “We could maybe hang out for a few minutes before you leave for the stadium.”

“No,” I say, yawning. “Just stay and have fun. It makes me happy when you’re happy.”

“Are you sure?” Her voice gets softer. “I’m worried about you. You have your sad puppy eyes going.”

“I’m fine. I just miss you.” I look back at the TV. “Should I watch Moana or ESPN?”

“Moana. Duh.” She spins her finger around. “Turn me to the TV. I’ll watch it with you.”

“Baby, you don’t need to do that. Go back to the party.” I smooch her a kiss. “I’ll see you in a few hours. You’re still coming to my office before the game, right?”

“Definitely,” she says, smooching me back. “If Joe can get me down there. You said Drew lectured you about it last night. You know he’s going to be watching, especially after he caught Roman trying to sneak me into your room last night.”

I shake my head. “Yeah, I’m never trusting Roman with a covert operation again. I definitely should have asked Mason or Butch to do it.”

“Sophie.” I hear my dad’s voice in the background. “Is that Seb?”

“Yeah,” Sophie says, turning the phone to Dad. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing you have to worry about. Hey, Seb.”

“Hey, Dad. What’s up?”
