“Tequila makes you so crazy,” I say, biting at her fingers. It makes her giggle again. “Cute crazy, but still crazy.”

“No,” she says slowly. “I drank Paloma, not tequila.”

“Baby,” I say, heading back toward the cigar bar with her still attached to my chest. “Paloma has tequila in it.”

She gasps and pulls her head back. “No, it doesn’t.”

“Yes, it does.”

Her mouth drops open. “It doesn’t taste like tequila at all.”

“That’s because Roman puts about a hundred different things in it to mask the taste.”

“Did I hear my name?” Roman looks over to us as we walk into the bar.

“Are you responsible for this?” I ask as I lower Sophie onto a couch.

“I swear, man,” Roman says, “I only gave her one glass.”

“And a half,” Sophie says, pointing at him.

“Quiet, drunkie,” he says, looking down at her. “I’m getting you food right now.”

“I want tacos. And doughnuts.”

“You’re getting rice and plantains,” he says. “Those are the only things that soak up Paloma.”

I sit down on the couch next to her and pull her onto my lap. “Promise me you won’t get near a pool tonight.”

“I promise,” she says, putting her hands around my face and pulling me in for kiss.

“Your breath smells like cherry Jolly Ranchers.”

“Sorry.” She covers her mouth with her hand.

“I didn’t say it was a bad thing.” I kiss her again and let my tongue explore a little bit. “I think I might get drunk just from the leftover in your mouth.”

“Good game, Seb.” Butch walks over and hands me a beer. “Soph, what were you saying about PDA?”

Sophie curls up her fist and punches his stomach in slow motion. “Butch is teaching me how to fight.”

“The fist is better,” he says, laughing, “but we’re going to need to get you on the speed bag.”

I look up as Roman puts a bowl of rice and plantains on the table in front of us.

“Eat up, Soph,” he says. “No more liquor until you make a happy plate.”

She sticks her tongue out at him as he walks away. “You’re not the boss of me!”

“Inside voice, baby,” I say, shifting her onto the couch beside me. I dish out a large portion of rice. “Let’s get something in your stomach before I have to go up to my room. From the looks of this party, I’m guessing you’re not done drinking for the night.”
