Teresa and Okeyo slumped in defeat, but Laurent sighed, his eyes briefly closed.

I frowned, my lips pressing in a thin line as I caught the tremble of Laurent’s hands before he clasped them behind his back. He was scared to go back into the KH.

An open door appeared in the middle of the room leading directly into my living room, and my smile stretched wide.

Sadie’s tense little face popped into view.

I ran inside and scooped her into my arms. She practically melted against me.

Eli kept his cop persona up long enough to usher everyone except Laurent into my house because the shifter hesitated. My ex shook his head, then joined the rest of us, swinging Sadie up off her feet.

Jude slung her arm around my waist, her head resting against mine. “Bad?”

I didn’t know if she was talking about the game or Laurent, who took a deep breath, his shoulders stiff, then shot forward just before the door disappeared, but the answer was the same. “Unimaginably so.”

I had to get everyone healed and back to their families, track down this Jason Maxwell who ran the gambling end, find out why Isla betrayed us, stop the game, visit Zev, and exchange some hard truths with Laurent, whether he wanted to or not.

For now, all that mattered was that I was alive, and I was home with my family. Everything else could wait until tomorrow.
