My partner held herself stiffly, a shudder running through her before she pushed me off. “Very well. Blow up that game, Miriam, then you can go play spy. Emmett, home.”
Emmett and Tatiana headed for Laurent’s truck, but I held the shifter back.
“Thank you for your support,” I said. “It meant a lot. Except for the part where you were completely useless.”
He chuckled. “You want help destroying the game?”
“Nah.”
“Call me after?”
“Yes.”
His smile widened. “À bientôt.” With that he jumped down the stairs and hurried after Tatiana and Emmett.
As for me? I had a game to destroy. I was an associate, after all.
