My mouth opened and closed several times like a fish gulping for air. Tatiana was a puppet master? I mean, yeah, she could manipulate organic material, I’d seen that, but this was serious next level stuff, since the only other creature I’d seen do this was a demon.
Emmett grabbed me with one meaty hand, fanning me with the other. “Are you stroking out?”
Swatting him away, I tore free and smoothed down my shirt. “You agreed to this for me?”
She notched her chin up. “I agreed because I owed Zev and it’s none of anyone’s business why.”
Naveen poked his staff into Laurent’s shoulder. “Guess you’re going to the Wise Brothers.”
“Where are they these days?” Tatiana said.
“Not far,” I replied. “I can get there in no time.”
The letter sent to Tatiana had given her three days to produce the gloves and twenty-four hours had already passed. Even if I got the first flight out to Los Angeles, that would eat up most of today. I had to use the Kefitzat Haderech, however, as far as I was aware, only Emmett and Laurent knew of its existence, and I intended to keep it that way. Let everyone think that I meant to go through a travel agent. My magic didn’t need to be some open book.
“We’re both going.” Laurent narrowed his eyes when I spoke up to disagree. “Don’t even think of fighting me on this, because I guarantee you’ll lose.”
