I breathed in the familiar scent of her coconut oil conditioner. My journey towards empowerment wasn’t simply about having magic back in my life. Magic was important because it was a part of me that I’d denied, but ultimately, I wanted to be a positive role model for my daughter, and show her how a woman of any age could live life on her own terms. It wasn’t about power per se, it was about powerful choices.
“I’m sorry I didn’t ask about your final,” I said. “How’d it go?”
“Aced it.” She twisted away and grabbed her backpack. “You don’t need to keep asking me about every little thing, you know.”
I reluctantly let her go. “I’m not ready for you to stop being my baby girl yet.”
“Oh, Mother. You do need a life.” Sadie grinned at me and let herself into her dad’s place.
Stifling another yawn, I dusted myself off and went inside. I’d given my daughter all the love and confidence for her to become an incredible young woman. Time to take care of myself as well.
I snuggled into my soft sofa under a fleece blanket and fell into a deep stupor.
