“And me,” Ryker called out.

“Don’t forget about me,” Lark said as she came in from the kitchen with a tray of snacks.

“Lark, you’re definitely invited to be on the call; you brought food. Kostya’s invited because it’s his computer. Ryker, you’re shit out of luck.”

Ryker laughed. “That’s the story of my life, but I will be listening in. Your story is too unbelievable, and since it’s not a government mission, just a tiny little dust-up concerning your girlfriend, I can write the script for Hollywood and make my millions.”

“Make him stop,” Gideon groaned to Kostya.

“What is he talking about?” Kostya asked Gideon.

“You’ll see,” Ryker smirked.

Gideon pressed the button on the laptop to start up the Zoom call.

“What the hell, are we having a party?” Kane bitched. “We don’t have time for this, Gideon. You said this guy is going to do something big, so we need to figure it out.”

“Shut it, McNamara,” a pretty blonde pixie said. “We need all hands on deck. In the twenty minutes since you gave me the info on Kendall Douglas, I can see we have a sociopath on our hands with a genius level I.Q. who doesn’t mind killing people. I’ve accessed his prison records, and there is no way in hell he should have been let out on parole. It might have shown that he was a model prisoner, but according to the infirmary records at the Solano State Prison, he shanked three guys and one died.”

“So why was he let go?” Dex asked.

“Because he got to those records and added a different middle initial to his name, and they never matched up to his permanent record.”

“Good job, Rylie,” Kane grinned. “How did you—”

“I’m good, it’s what I do.”

Jada loved it; this girl didn’t bother with false modesty, and Jada suspected that the big, adoring man beside her might have something to do with it.

“Real fast, introduction time.” Dex cut in. “Y’all just met Rylie Stanton; she’s married to the big SEAL sitting next to her. He’s on the Midnight Delta team, and his name is Dare Stanton.”

Dare nodded.

“The grumpy guy is Kane McNamara, second-in-command and computer geek for Night Storm out of Little Creek, Virginia. Wave like a good boy, Kane,” Dex commanded.

Kane raised his middle finger.

“We then have Clint and Lydia Archer. Clint is the computer and communications genius from Midnight Delta out of Coronado California, his wife runs circles around him. Wave.” They both waved.

“I’m Dex Evans, the computer nerd from Black Dawn, also out of Coronado. Now it’s your turn to do the introductions, Gideon. See if you can match my level of entertainment.”

“Jesus, Dex, did someone put drugs in your Cheerios this morning?” Kane asked.

“Bet you Kenna was extra nice to him this morning,” Clint grinned knowingly.

Jada stifled a giggle.

“I’m Gideon Smith,” Gideon started. “I’m second-in-command of Omega Sky here at Little Creek, Virginia. The beauty beside me is Jada Harlow, and I’d put her skills up against all of yours.”

“You go, girl,” Rylie cried.

“Then we’ve got my Lieutenant, Kostya Barona standing behind the couch. He probably has his arms crossed and is looking grim.” Gideon pointed his thumb behind him without even looking. “The goofy-looking guy next to him is Ryker McQueen. He’s our breacher, which is probably how he made it into this meeting. The gorgeous woman seated to the right of Jada is Lark Sorensen. She is a top-notch investigative reporter and engaged to Kostya. Are we caught up now? Can we start the meeting, Dex?”

“You have my permission to begin,” Dex said magnanimously.

Gideon hated this.
