“Funny thing that. We both said the same thing—we had a friend in need, and asked if we could be released from training. He was cool with it. We have five days until Kostya is due back, then we’re to talk to him and reassess.”

Gideon nodded. That was another thing he put on his mentalto-dolist, he needed to inform Kostya what was going on. He took the last sip of his coffee. “I’m going to find places for us to stay, and not at that shitty motel Jada was staying at.”

“Shitty’s fine, I’m not particular,” Nolan drawled.

“When did you become so hoity-toity?” Ryker asked. “I believe we have slept for five days in our same stanky uniforms on dirt and rocks with our packs as pillows, so what in the hell’s wrong with Jada’s motel?”

“It’s exactly because of those days in the desert, jungle, and mud that I like my amenities when I can get them,” Gideon smiled slowly.

“You Princess,” Ryker scoffed with a twinkle in his eye.

“Quit giving Gideon shit and let’s go stretch our legs. The sooner he can get on his comp, the sooner we have rooms where we can get some sleep.”

Gideon smiled at Nolan who got up, bussed the table, and handed one of the full trays with debris to Ryker. He took the other, and they both walked off. Gideon pulled out his tablet to make reservations, then to check in with the other team’s computer experts.
