“I didn’t know I would need enough C-4 to take down the house, boat house, and garage,” the man said tentatively. “It’s in Butch’s car, and he had the keys. I think you killed him?” His voice went up as he asked the question; it was clear he was scared to death.
C-4? What’s going on?
Jada tried to move her head a little bit more. She needed to get out of here. She couldn’t trust that the director guy still wanted her alive. Maybe she was supposed to go up in the explosion. As she moved the tarp she saw a pylon with a life preserver hanging off it. A dock. She had to be on a dock.
The marina! I’m at the marina!
“Help!” she screamed. “Help!” she screamed louder. “Rape!” she screamed even louder.
“Shut her up,” the woman said in a bored tone. “I don’t want to have to listen to her screaming and whining.”
Someone yanked the tarp off her and she blinked her eyes.
“Heeeeelllp!” Jada continued to scream the word.
“Should I drug her?” the man asked.
“No, gag her. The director could be coming. I’m not sure. If he does come, he wants to be able to question her.”
Someone kicked her head. Unimaginable pain exploded through her skull. Her mouth went slack.
One of them stuffed a rag in her mouth, then wound a rope around her head. Around and around, until she thought she was going to choke. Her eyes were watering and she blinked rapidly, trying to clear them.
I can’t pass out. I’ll choke to death if I pass out.
The redheaded woman crouched down beside her and grabbed her chin so she was forced to look at her. “That was very annoying, and a waste of time. We’re nowhere near anyone else.”
There was no way that what she’d found out about Risk Guard was this bad. Sure, someone might be angry and questioning her. But this? Torturing a man to death? C-4?
What the fuck did I get myself into?
“Who?” Jada mumbled behind the gag.
The redhead laughed. “I can’t understand you, Baby.”
“Who?” Jada tried again.
“You’re a regular comedian.”
“Who?”
“She probably wants to know if we’re going to kill her,” the man said.
“Shut up, Luke. You concentrate on finding a way to make everything go boom,” she said over her shoulder.
“Actually,” another woman said. “She’s just saying one word. I think our little genius is asking, ‘who’.”
This was the woman who’d referred to Jada as merchandise. The one who had scared away the pervert.
“Is that it, Baby? You want to know who?” Naomi asked.
Jada nodded and pain sliced through her temple where she’d been kicked.
“It’s our director. You never want to fuck with him. He can get just a tad bit grumpy, and when he does,” she giggled, “well, take a look at yourself and you can see. Bad things happen.”
She turned around and stood up from her crouch. “Luke, you better have figured out a way to blow everything up, otherwise bad things will be happening to you,” she growled.
“And it’ll go slow,” the other woman said in a sweet voice. “Actually, fuck it up, Luke, I would enjoy a project. I’d really been hoping to work on this little girl, but apparently, I’m not allowed. So please, Luke, I’m begging you, fuck it up.”
