“I told you, we didn’t share a room,” Jada reminded the older woman. “And he’s not twice my age.”

“I saw you two on the dance floor, don’t be tryin’ to pull one over on me. You might not have shared a room, but there was some sparkin’ going on. Now I don’t want details. Are you spending the night in Lexington again?”

Jada didn’t know how to answer, because she didn’t know if she was.

“My point is made. You have a care, Girly. My new grand-son-in-law holds Gideon in high esteem. I’m not going to think anything but the best of both of you, no matter what you get on up to. I just don’t want to see my girl hurt. You hear me?”

Jada’s heart melted. “I hear you, Granny.”

“Now, you tell this young man, I willnotbe happy if I don’t see the two of you before you both leave the state of Kentucky. I want my goodbye kisses. So does your Auntie and Grandpap. You hear me?”

“I do,” Jada smiled.

“Get on with you.”
