She looked over her shoulder at where Sebastian and Gianna were sitting in front of everyone. Judging from the couple’s stiff smiles, Gideon was not wrong.

She smiled up at him. “I like your plan.”

He stood up and held out his hand. She took it and soon she was hugging Gianna goodbye. Her friend was so excited about being Mrs. Sebastian Durand that it didn’t even enter her consciousness that Jada was leaving with Gideon.

As soon as they got outside she pointed to a dark spot in the corner of the reception hall lot. “My rental car’s there.”

“Jesus, Jada. You should know better than to park way the hell over there. Please tell me you’re armed.”

Jada spread her arms wide, holding her clutch purse and bouquet in one hand and her shawl in the other. “My bag’s a little small for a pistol, don’t you think?”

“Well, then I think you should have parked a little closer to the entrance, don’t you?”

“Look here, Mr. Smooth-Talker, I was planning on having someone walk me to my car because I knew it was going to be dark out when I left. Okay? Happy now that you are back into mya lotannoying category?”

But he was hot when he was all alpha protective male, and he wasn’t saying anything that any of her big brothers wouldn’t be saying.

But.

But.

She didn’t want to be kissing one of her big brothers.

Gideon caught her eye. “A lotannoying, huh?”

“Yes.” She tugged his hand and started dragging him toward her rental car.

“Hold up there, Jada. Once you get into your rental, where are you planning on going?”

“To Boone’s.” She tugged at his hand again, but he wasn’t moving, therefore, neither was she.

“Boone’s Tavern, the bed and breakfast that Sebastian rented out for the entire wedding party?” Gideon clarified.

“Everyone, except for you,” Jada reminded him.

“That’s right. The idea of all that togetherness, when it wasn’t with my teammates, gave me the heebie-jeebies.”

“It’s nice,” she protested. “Are you walking me to my car or what?”

“I know the hotel is nice, but if you’re serious about us taking a little bit of time to talk and explore our chemistry without ending up in either of one another’s rooms, I’ve got a better idea.” He pulled her closer and stroked his hand up her arm, up her shoulder, until he was holding her around the back of her neck and tilting her head up so they were looking each other in the eye.

“What’s your idea?” she whispered.

“Let’s swing by Boone’s, you pick up just enough to tide you over for a night, and I call over to my hotel and book you your own room. Then we go have dessert in their restaurant and close down their bar as we get to take our time getting to know one another.”

Heat swirled its way down from his hand to the center of her chest, then settled between her legs, leaving her aching.

All that from a few words and him touching my neck. I’m screwed.

When she didn’t answer, he smiled. “I’m thinking you like that idea.”

Jada nodded.

Once again, he grasped her hand, this time sliding his fingers through hers, and guided her to his silver Range Rover.

It had beena long time since Jada had woken up with such a sense of regret. Looking around the beautifully appointed hotel room, she pushed herself up against the headboard and banged her head against it.
