“This is glorious,”she smiled up at Gideon.

“What?” he asked as he pulled her in, just a little closer.

“Wearing heels with a man, and still having to look up. I don’t get to do that very often.”

Gideon’s hand tightened at her waist as he easily guided her around the dancefloor. That was another thing, she’d never been in the arms of a better dancer. Never. Not even when she’d gone to the military dances at Camp Pendleton as a young girl with her father. Nobody had it going on like Gideon Smith. When she told him that he laughed.

“They’re Marines, Angel, what did you expect?”

“Hey, watch your tongue, my Dad was a Marine.”

“Your father was the one exception.” His thumb trailed a circle around the curve of her lower back, causing her to shiver.

“I like the maid-of-honor dress that Gianna chose for you to wear. It suits you.”

“She designed it. She’s crazy talented.” Gianna had designed her own wedding dress too, which was amazing. With her design, there was no way she looked five months pregnant.

Gideon stroked her dress. “I can only imagine one thing softer than this material,” he murmured.

A shudder ran through her body. A great dancer, so handsome, and a smooth talker. Maybe she’d been wrong about Gideon Smith. The first time she’d dealt with him over the phone and SKYPE, she was sure he needed to be committed to the fiery depths of hell for being an arrogant prick. The arrogance was still there, but the prick part seemed to have disappeared.

“It’s angora. Only Gianna would want a winter wedding in Kentucky. She knew it was going to be cold and snowing, so I made her promise that I’d be warm. I don’t like cold.”

Gideon’s laugh swirled around her like steam from a sauna. It promised to heat her from the inside out until all of her bones were melted into warm molten gold.

“You with me?”

“Huh?”

“I was just saying that you and Kostya have a lot in common, he hates the cold too. I wouldn’t be surprised if he faked the whole meeting in California so he could avoid the snow.”

“Smart man,” Jada muttered.

“I’m not complaining. He would have definitely been trying to cut in on this dance.”

Jada highly doubted it. “He knows about me, right?”

“Sure. You’re the woman who helped save the bride.”

“Yeah, and the one who was a pain in your ass while doing it,” Jada muttered.

“As far as Kostya and the rest of the Omega Sky team are concerned, that’s a plus. Apparently, they think that taking me down a peg or two is a good thing.”

Jada moved her head from where it had been resting on his shoulder to look up at him. “They do? A plus?”

The song ended, and Gideon took her hand and guided her to a table in the corner, instead of the dais where they had been previously sitting. He pulled out a chair for her and she sat down, then he pulled up a chair close to hers. Instead of feeling penned in, she felt safe.

How odd. Must be because he’s so big.

“Jada, let’s get something straight, yeah, you can be a tad bit annoying when you think you’re right about everything.”

She couldn’t help the giggle that popped out of her mouth.

“I didn’t know that ‘a tad’ and ‘a lot’ meant the same thing.”

Gideon laughed. “Okay, maybea tadis an understatement.”
