“Fucking Max and Kostya,” Gideon muttered.

“Excuse me? I don’t appreciate that kind of language, Sir.”

Gideon looked up to see the pretty little dark-haired flight attendant who was about to greet them as they were stepping onto the plane scowling at him. He heard Ryker laughing behind him.

“I’m sorry, ma’am.”

She sniffed, only slightly mollified.

Ryker elbowed Gideon as they settled into their seats. “You sure screwed the pooch on that one. And here you were giving me shit on how I was approaching Amy.”

“Just sit down and shut up, will you? I need to use this time before we take off to see if any of the scripts I was running found anything out.”

He checked his phone.

Aw, hell no!

Gideon damn near ground his back molars to dust and looked up to see that passengers were still boarding the plane. Good, he still had time. He placed a call.

“Kane,” he started talking before Kane McNamara even had a chance to say hello. “I see what you’re doing, and your code is all wrong. Just stay the hell away from Jada’s system. I know her inside and out; let me try to break in, you focus on little Night Storm shit. Do you hear me?”

“Well, it’s good talking to you too, Buddy.” Kane drawled.

“I’m serious, McNamara. I don’t have time for any of your bullshit. Jada said she was in trouble. The sooner I can find out what the hell is going on, the better. Me tripping over your lame-assed attempts at infiltration is not helping.”

There was a pause. “Okay, Gideon, then tell me how I can help.”

Gideon felt the tight bands around his chest ease just a slight bit. “Find out what she’s been doing for the last five months. I haven’t seen her since Neil’s christening, and I haven’t been keeping track. See if anything she’s been working with, or anyone she’s been talking to, is connected to Tillamook, Oregon.”

“Got it.”

“Also, about the plans for the training in Fort Knox,” Gideon started.

“I’ve got that covered. Already talked to Commander Clark. I’m kind of pissed that I never considered doing it with Night Storm. It’s evilly brilliant, it will totally fuck them up, I love it. You don’t mind if I add a couple of things to it, do you?”

“You have my blessings, but if you—”

“You have my word, the thing with Jada is my top priority. I’ve also tapped Dex and Clint. We’ve got your back.”

The flight attendant came down the aisle and glared at him. He must have missed the announcement to put his phone on airplane mode.

“Sorry, ma’am.

“Gotta go,” he said to Kane. Then he powered down his phone.

“You seem to be breathing easier,” Ryker said as he leaned in to talk to him.

“I am. Kane called in the computer experts from Midnight Delta and Black Dawn. I don’t know if they’re all available, but Kane’ll let me know when we land.”

Dammit, Jada, what in the hell have you gotten yourself into?
