Gideon recognized the smell;he was in a hospital. His eyes snapped open. His head pounded, his hand stung. Nobody was with him.
Thank fuck.
He yanked out the IV from his hand and swung his legs out of the bed. He stumbled as he tried to walk.
Gotta get to Jada. To Neil.
His ass was hanging out, like that mattered. He made it as far as the door to his room, then fell against the wall, his shoulder taking the hit.
“Goddammit, Gideon,” Kostya growled as he came into the room. He pulled him upright. “What in the hell are you thinking? Let’s get you back to your bed.”
Kostya looked fuzzy.
“Where are they?”
“Who?”
“Ja—”
“Right.” Kostya was steering him toward the bed. “Jada and the baby are fine. So’s your dog.” He pushed him down so Gideon was sitting on the side of the bed.
“Kendall?”
“Who?” Kostya asked again. He tried to press Gideon into a prone position, but he wasn’t having it.
“Kendall Douglas, you remember him.” Gideon shook his head and pain sliced through it, but that managed to cut through the fog. “Miles Albright. Where is he?”
“Was he at the warehouse?” Kostya asked. He’d finally managed to shove Gideon down, despite his best efforts to stay sitting up.
“Dammit, he must have gotten away,” Gideon muttered. “Where’s Jada? Tell me about Jada. I’ve got to get to her.” He did an ab curl and tried to shove his Lieutenant so that he could get up, but there was no way he could match Kostya’s strength in the shape he was in.
“I told you Jada’s fine. Lots of superficial wounds, but they’ve got her here, and they’re treating her.”
“I need to see her.” Gideon took another swipe at Kostya, but his friend easily blocked it. “Neil? What happened to Neil?”
“Lucy was waking up when Nolan got to your house. She tried to attack him when he was searching the house and heard Neil’s whimpers and tried to get into Neil’s room.”
Gideon almost smiled. First good news he’d heard since he’d woken up.
“I can then assume my Godson and dog are doing fine?”
“Absolutely,” Kostya grinned. “It took Nolan more than a minute, but he managed to get to Neil and get him to Sebastian and Gianna. He wasn’t part of the op.”
“He was doing the important thing.”
“That’s how he saw it,” Kostya agreed.
“How’d you find us?”
“We didn’t, it was either Kane, Dex, or Clint. Something about a real estate subsidiary of Risk Guard. I didn’t get into it, but they were able to pinpoint you.”
“I owe them.”
Kostya shook his head.
“I need to see Jada. Where is she?”
