She slowly turned away and bit her bottom lip. Gideon couldn’t tell if she was in pain, didn’t want to tell him, or was just thinking.

“What, Angel?” he prompted.

Her head whipped around and her eyes spit fire. “Don’t call me that. Don’t ever call me that again.”

Gideon could see the pain on her face. It gutted him. He suspected she hurt from both turning so fast, and because he had been such an utter dick the last time they’d been together in Kentucky.

“Alright, Jada, I’m sorry, I won’t call you Angel. But please be mindful of your injury. There’s a reason the doctor is keeping you here for two more days.”

“Which is utter bullshit,” Jada gritted out. Then she clenched her teeth and it became clear that her pain was indeed physical.

“You need to take the pain meds the nurses bring to you. Did you sleep last night?”

“Sure, I passed out on you and the underwear models, remember.”

Stubborn, the woman redefined the word stubborn.

“Are you saying I’m not an underwear model?” he teased.

She twisted her lips.

“Tell me why you’re here,” he asked again.

Again she remained silent.

He sighed. “I need to know why you came to Oregon. Did it have anything to do with the eighteen companies you were on contract to penetrate for Risk Guard?”

Jada closed her eyes, then opened them up and looked at the ceiling, but a smile was playing on her lips. “You got into my cloud account. How?”

“Not telling, but yes I did.”

She turned her head to look at him, this time a hell of a lot more slowly. “You want info, well so do I. I’m not saying a word until you tell me how you were able to hack my cloud account and promise to let me in on your little soldier games.”

Gideon rubbed the top of his head. “I figured out your password.”

She sat up straight in bed. “Bullshit.”

“Nope, it happened.”

“I never use the same password for anything. Everything is at least,at leastsixteen characters, with numbers, upper and lower case letters, and three symbols. Bullshit you figured out my password.”

“I did.”

Her eyes got even wider. He watched as she thought through how he could have possibly come up with her password.

“Okay, you figured out how I sequence my passwords. No two are the same, but there are pieces of them that stay the same, but how could you even know that?” She wasn’t asking him, she was talking to herself. He continued to watch her process. It was fascinating to see how her mind worked. He loved it.

“Fuck! Fuckity, fuck! It was Jimmy Choo and Louboutin! I totally fucked up! My password was captured on my computer when I shopped, and I didn’t ensure it was scrubbed after I was done shopping. You found out how I sequence my passwords! Dammit!!!”

Gideon fought hard not to grin, but she saw it.

“Do not laugh at me,” she pointed a finger at his face.

“I’m not laughing.”

“Bullshit! You’re laughing that my shoe habit is what screwed me over.”

He saw the twinkle in her eye. And this was one of the many reasons he adored her—she could laugh at herself.
