Faster.
Faster.
Gideon knew they were going to stop the dam from unleashing water. It should take another forty minutes to get the alternate code written and disarm Kendall’s big plan. But he desperately wanted to be working on backtracking the malware so that he had a shot of finding Kendall’s whereabouts.
I want that man.
I want my hands on that man.
I want to make him pay.
“Gideon, we’ve got this,” Jada shouted at him from across the room. “Work on finding Kendall.”
Gideon looked at his watch. One hour and seven minutes.
“She’s right. We’re almost done,” Kane said. “When the dam doesn’t spill too much water, Kendall’s going to know we’ve got him and he’ll run. You’ve got to track him now!”
Gideon toggled over to another screen on his laptop and focused on the backtracking script he had started. As his fingers flew across the keys, his head whirled in the best sort of way—he was in the zone!
You’re not getting away this time.
He was deep into the code when his phone buzzed. For the last three hours, he’d had it set to buzz in ten-minute increments so he’d know where he was on Kendall’s countdown. He looked up and found Kostya staring over him.
“What?” he snarled.
“Simon’s got two Jayhawks waiting just in case Kendall ends up fucking with you on his whereabouts. Or Rylie, Clint, and Lydia come up with one thing and you come up with something else, then we have two different means of transportation.”
“Good.” Gideon turned back to his computer. They had fifty minutes.
“Fuck yeah!” Jada shouted.
“Great job, Honey,” Kane’s voice was equally loud.
Gideon took half a second to grin at Jada’s success, but he was on a mission. He was getting pretty close himself. He would have asked for Jada and Kane’s help, but he was now to the point where he was following different methods and routes that Kendall had taken to hide his location. Currently, Gideon’s search had him routed through Lisbon when he’d just been in Minsk, but he knew he was getting closer.
“Gideon,” Kostya whispered over his shoulder. “Lark called me a little over an hour ago. I didn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up, but Naomi Sims got a call from her sister Jenny. Naomi gave Lark her phone number.”
Stunned, Gideon looked at his lieutenant. He knew that Lark was an amazing investigative reporter, but how in the hell had she developed such a rapport with that sexual deviant?
Jada and Kane had come over to listen in to the conversation.
“Anyway, Lark gave the number to Clint and he was able to trace it. You’re not going to believe this, but the call came from Miles Albright’s penthouse in Manhattan.”
“When was this?” Gideon wanted to know.
“Jenny made the call to her sister last night.”
“What’s your gut telling you?” he asked Kostya.
“I don’t know the guy like you do, Gideon.” Then Kostya turned to Jada, “Or you. What do you two think?”
Gideon locked eyes with Jada. She nodded her head, and he agreed.
“He might have played that over-the-top game show host on the video, but there isn’t a chance in hell that he would be back at his penthouse like a sitting duck,” Gideon said. “He’s past the point of trying to set traps. This thing here at the dam is his big gotcha.” Gideon looked up at where Jada was standing.
“I agree. What’s more, if he and Jenny were together right now, he wouldn’t allow her to make a phone call on a phone that could be tracked. Nope, this is Jenny acting on her own.”
