“Thank fuck,” he breathed out.
Lark laughed. “You are such a neanderthal.”
“Can I help it if I don’t want my woman having money stuffed down her G-string while she’s shaking her body in front of strange men?”
“That sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Just know it goes both ways, hot stuff.”
“That’s a deal.”
Lark clapped her hand over her mouth before a giggle escaped.
God, what is my life coming to?
She pulled her phone out to change the course of the conversation and pulled up the pictures of Dawn and Candy. “Gideon has these pictures too, right? It’s too bad we couldn’t have met with him before we got here.” Lark bit her lip as she laid her phone down on the tabletop.
“I’ve got them right here,” Kostya said as he put his phone down next to hers. “As for Gideon, he has them, don’t worry. I hope to hell he has a lot more than that,” he grumbled. Lark saw him scan the room again and this time he looked back at her with a satisfied smile.
“You saw one of the women?”
“Nah, but I finally found my second-in-command. He’s charming two of the waitresses.”
“Geez, is that some kind of mandatory skillset for your team members?”
“After looking over how the Coronado teams operated, I absolutelydidmake it a part of the recruitment process.” Lark watched as he started texting. Hell, Kostya was so serious in how he answered, that she couldn’t tell if he was serious or not. He looked up from his phone and winked at her.
“You’re an ass,” she muttered.
“I had you going, didn’t I?”
“I don’t want to talk about it,” she huffed. “Were you texting Gideon?”
“Yeah,” he responded.
Lark saw a waitress at the table next to theirs and flagged her over. She nodded as she was finishing up with the other customers.
“What did Gideon say?”
“He found out that there was a new waitress named Candy. She started two weeks ago.”
Lark felt a ten-ton weight lift off her shoulders. “Thank God. Is she working tonight?”
“She comes in at nine. Apparently, she and her sister got jobs at the same time. Her sister works as one of the bartenders.”
Lark looked down at her watch. It was eight-thirty. “Should we flag them down in the parking lot before they come in?”
“Youshould,” Kostya said. “I’ll wait nearby until you call me over. We don’t want to scare them off.”
The waitress walked up to them. “What can I get you?” she asked.
Lark gave Kostya a lascivious look and slid her hand from his knee up to the top of his thigh. “I think we’re going to skip drinks and go back to our hotel.”
“Honey, that happens more than you would think.” She grinned at the two of them.
Kostya put a twenty-dollar bill on her tray and helped Lark down from her seat. They grabbed their phones and headed out. When they got outside they looked at one another.
“Where should we wait?” Lark asked.
“Gideon said there was an employee entrance around back. Let’s move the truck back there so you’re not just standing next to the door waiting to pounce. How does that sound?”
