I’m going home!
He sat back in his seat and felt just a tiny bit of tension begin to fade.
Then Kostya was thrown up against the door and Linc fell against him.
What the fuck?!
The helicopter had just made a deep dive to the left.
Hell, have we lost power?
The pilot was yelling something in Finnish. Then he switched to English.
“Russians!”
Kostya turned and smashed his face against the window. He saw a gray helicopter coming up fast on their right. It zipped upwards. Not good, so not good. It would have the firing advantage. Their helicopter dipped again, then zoomed straight for the clouds. The NH-90 might only be defensive, but it had game.
“Mi-35M,” Sebastian shouted out. “No missiles.”
“It’s our lucky day!” Ryker shouted.
“Boss, grenades!” Linc shouted at him as he twisted his grenade launcher onto his rifle. Kostya handed over a grenade that he fished out of his cargo pants pocket.
“Somebody tell the pilot we need to get in front and above and that we’re shooting from this side. Three hundred meters.”
“Four hundred,” Linc corrected as he finished loading the grenade and slammed open the door.
Kostya looked up and saw Sebastian leaning over the pilot’s seat.
Bullets hit their helicopter, and once again the pilot dipped and turned. He was doing the absolute wrong thing!
“Sebastian!” Kostya yelled. His man waved his arm at him without looking back. Kostya knew he was telling the pilot what he needed to do.
When their helicopter turned again, Linc and Kostya saw the Russian helicopter behind and above them, but Linc didn’t take the shot. It was too close and the blast from the Russian helicopter above them would blow their copter all to hell. They needed to get above them.
“Sebastian!” Kostya shouted again. “Get us vertical now!”
He watched his man start climbing over the pilot’s seat, then felt their helicopter zoom up, causing almost everyone to lose their footing. But Kostya was prepared. He’d had his hand braced against the doorway, and had his other hand holding Linc in place as he continued to aim the grenade launcher.
Kostya held his breath and watched Linc wait until they outpaced the Russian helicopter.
One hundred and fifty meters.
Two hundred meters.
Take the fucking shot!
Two hundred and fifty meters.
Take the fucking shot!
Three hundred and fifty meters.
Linc depressed the trigger.
Bullets ripped across the side of the NH-90, then Linc was flung backward.
The Russian helicopter didn’t explode, but Linc had hit the rotor mast! Kostya grinned as the propellers melted off the helicopter right before the machine began to plummet. He turned and saw that Nolan had dragged Linc to the center of the floor and had a tourniquet around his upper leg. From what Kostya could see, the high-powered bullet had not been a direct hit, thank God. Instead, it had grazed the outer part of Linc’s lower thigh.
