Chapter nineteen

“Please,no,”Caliwhimpered as Paolo approached her. There was nothing this bitch could say that would make him not want to do this. “I’m sorry. I love you.”

Paolo threw his head back and laughed. He turned to Gino. “Do you hear this cagna? Bitch says she loves me.”

Gino smiled then commented, “I’d hate to see what she’d do if she hated you.”

“Too bad we won’t find out,” Paolo promised through gritted teeth. Dante stood in the shadows. “You two make one more sweep around the perimeter, then come back for the body.”

Cali’s pleas became more persistent. She was sobbing uncontrollably. “Please, Paolo. I wasn’t going to kill her.”

“Cut the shit, Cali. You were. I told you if you hurt her, I would kill you.” Paolo slowly advanced on the sniffling bitch.

“I didn’t hurt her. You can ask her.”

“I don’t need to ask her shit. You thought you could come into my city, pull that bullshit with the Barons that almost caused a war, and then you threaten me with the woman I love.” He raked the knife across her cheek on the word ‘love’.

Cali screamed, tears streaming down her face mixed with the trickle of blood. “I didn’t mean it, Paolo. I just wanted to get your attention.”

He moved around the back of the chair she was strapped to, fisting her hair, then pulling back to expose her neck. “You had my attention with the bills. Why the fuck did you have to bring my woman into it?”

Paolo didn’t wait for her answer before he raked the knife down her neck, careful not to nick any important arteries or veins. It didn’t matter anyway. He didn’t give a shit about anything she said. All he wanted was to hear her screams. She could beg for her life all she wanted.

“I didn’t know you were serious about her. I didn’t know she was yours…” she babbled.

Paolo bent next to her ear. “You’re lying, Cali. Didn’t you call her my girlfriend over the phone? You knew exactly who she was to me.”

He plunged his knife into her bicep and twisted it before he pulled the knife out. Then plunged it into the top of her right thigh. Cali’s body jerked, tipping the chair onto its back legs, but it didn’t tip over. When the chair righted itself, Paolo sliced Cali across her chest, he kept slicing, letting all the anger, frustration for putting Lyric in that situation, and the fear of the real possibility he could’ve lost her come out in every single swing of the knife. Paolo cut until the only thing left of Cali was a bleeding mess, missing chunks of flesh.

When Paolo stopped slicing, he wiped his knife on his thigh, cleaning her blood off his blade. Although she was cut up, Cali was still alive. He lifted her chin, so he could see the light leave her eyes when he finally killed her.

“You now know what it means to cross a DeLuca and fuck with what is his. Know that the reason for your death was because you fucked with the woman I love and that I never loved you. You were just a good fuck.” With that last declaration, Paolo slit her throat and, for good measure, plunged his knife into her heart.

Just as he retrieved his knife, Gino and Dante returned.

“Get her to the back of the car and dump her in the ocean after you take me home.” He wiped his knife on his thigh again and headed out to the SUV. He couldn’t wait to hold Lyric in his arms. One thing Paolo knew for certain was that he would never let her out of sight again and promised he’d always protect her no matter the cost.
