Operation First Bride was rocking it.

I’m going to marry Grant!

Hopefully.

“Now,” he said, “let me go grab those groceries before everything melts.”

“Want help?”

“No, you stay put. Maybe you can help put things away, though.” He studied her outfit. “I see that you’re back in your hiking clothes.”

“Yeah, I washed them out, and they dried overnight.” If she was staying there, she wished she had something else to wear besides Grant’s sweats. But those would do if she could spend more time with him. She shrugged. “I thought you were taking me home today, so.”

“Not to worry. Misty and Charlotte are dropping by this evening with some more of your stuff, and your phone charger.”

“Oh? Are they? That’s great.” Unless they brought up the bet by accident. That would be a disaster.

Which meant she’d be worrying about any slips until the moment they walked back out the door. Super fun.

“Yeah. I figured you’d want to have some of your own things while we’re settling in.” He winked. “Nesting.”

Her eyebrows arched. “Nesting?”

“Just like two little lovebirds, Nell. Lovey-dovey.”

Her heart fluttered, except this time the giddiness was tinged with a hint of panic. There was that “love” word again. Twice, even.

She totally wouldn’t mind getting a little more lovey-dovey with Grant. Soon. She just needed to find her footing in his accelerated timeline, and fast.

“Thank you for thinking of that, Grant.” She gave him a tentative smile. “Um. Do you think I could borrow your phone to text them a list of things to get?”

“Good idea. Text away!” He handed her his phone. “I want you to be comfortable for the duration of your stay.” His eyes swept over her slowly. “But please don’t set your departure date yet. I’ve got another surprise for you.”

She blinked. How many more surprises could she take in one morning? “You do?”

“Sit tight. I’ll share in a bit.”

Dazed, Nell stayed at the kitchen table and sent a quick note to her sisters. She kept it specific to a short list of clothing and some toiletries and didn’t mention anything else, in case Grant went back and read it later.

Charlotte answered first.

We’re happy to help out!

Misty followed.

See you soon!

Nell weighed her options but decided not to reply to either one.

Better to wait until she had her own phone or saw them in person.

Grant hauled in bag after bag of groceries, trying not to chuckle at Nell’s stunned expression. Nesting. That genius idea had been totally inspired, and it had come to him on the fly.

“Whoa,” she said. “How long are we staying?”

“How long would you like to stay?”
