“What does Ahhwinnii mean again,” the asshole asked.
His sister balled her fist even though her eyes shined with unshed tears. She looked proud with her long dark hair blowing away from her face. She looked powerful. Far more so than her small stature would’ve said.
“My name is Awinita, you prick!”
“What did you just call me, you filthy red skin?”
“She called you a prick!” Jimmy yelled, getting the attention of the ringleader of the scene as we reached the outer ring. “You’re going to fucking leave her alone, or I’m going to rearrange your face.”
“Jimmy, what are you doing,” Wolf asked under his breath.
“If I’m caught bloodying this fucker up, I’ll get a slap on the wrist.” Jimmy fixed him with a hard stare. “If you do it, we both know that shit won’t be that simple.”
It was a sad truth, but it didn’t mean he liked it. Also didn’t mean he wanted to have other people fight his battles for him. Logic won out, though, and he nodded, hoping it didn’t come down to blood being drawn.
Jimmy was tall for his age and had a couple of inches on the guy that was two years older.
“Who the fuck are you,” the asshole asked.
“This is my girlfriend, you piece of shit, and if you call her one more name, I will fucking kill you.” Jimmy got up into the guy’s face, his body ready for the fight, as Wolf went straight over to his sister. Awinita didn’t say anything, but she was definitely pissed at their interference. Her mouth was drawn in a tight line, and she glared at him. He tried to plead his case silently, but she looked away and crossed her arms.
“Oh yeah, you and what army,” the asshole asked.
The tension was thick, but Wolf could tell by the body language of all those standing around that they were here for the show and not interested in getting involved.
“I’m a Walton, bitch,” Jimmy said and smiled.
His last name held weight in this area. He came from a rich family that also had a ton of military, police, and NFL relatives, but on top of that, Jimmy had six older brothers that were all known to mess a person up if you crossed one of them. If he was going to pick a best friend, he really couldn’t have chosen better in the backup department for pretty much any situation.
The asshole swallowed so hard that Wolf could hear it from where he stood just behind Jimmy.
“That’s right, asshole, so run along with your tail between your legs, and if I find out that you or any of your little punk friends here are buggin’ my girl again, we are gonna have a real problem.”
The guy stepped back and glared at the three of them.
“Not worth it. She’s just a dumb Indian.”
Jimmy came unleashed. The fist came so fast that the asshole didn’t even finish his thought before the fist connected with his jaw. Asshole fell to the ground, and Jimmy jumped on his body, his fists flying.
“Shit,” Wolf grabbed his friend and hauled him off as Asshole and his group of followers took off. “What the hell?”
Jimmy was breathing hard. His eyes were still fixed on the Asshole as he was running away, his red T-shirt still able to be seen bobbing as he went.
“I fuckin’ warned him if he said one more word and he said one more mother fuckin word, so he had it comin’.” Jimmy turned to look at Awinita. “You okay?”
“I was doing fine without either of you interfering. I don’t need my baby brother or his friends sticking up for me.”
“I wasn’t sticking up for you,” Jimmy said, stopping Awinita, her mouth hanging open. “I was defending what was right. I’d do it for you, Wolf, or anyone else, and if you have a problem with that, then I’m sorry, but I’ll do it again until people stop being pricks or I end updead.” Jimmy bent down and picked up her backpack, and handed it over. “Here.” He held it out and then walked away.
Wolf stood there and looked between his confused sister’s face, who seemed insulted that Jimmy said he wasn’t defending her honor specifically, and Jimmy’s retreating back.
“I’m going to catch up to him if you’re good?”
“Yeah, I didn’t want your help anyway. Tell Mom I’ll be late.” Awinita walked away, and he turned to jog after his friend.
He fell into pace beside Jimmy and looked at his face that was back to the same goofy and chill guy that he knew.
“Did you mean that back there?”
