“You’re mine. From now on, you’re only mine,” he whispered in her ear. “I’ll love you with my last breath and protect you until my heart stops beating.”

He pushed himself up as Maeve went to move. She rolled herself over and wrapped her arms around his neck as he laid back down to blanket her body once more.

Sex always had been mediocre for him. He’d even gone years without any because he never felt connected, but Maeve was his. She was meant for him in a way he couldn’t express but felt in every fiber of his body. He’d fought it every moment they’d spent together until now, but he couldn’t deny it any more than he could explain it. She simply was.

“I have something for you,” he said and leaned over the bed to grab his jeans.

He pulled out the simple necklace with a small feather and a few beads on it that he’d scrounged together. Wolf held the necklace up for Maeve to see, and her eyes lit up like it was a diamond ring.

“You made this for me?”

“Do you like it?”

She reached her hand up and ran it through her fingers.

“I love it. Waya I…” She stopped and cleared her throat as she blinked away the shimmer of tears. “I want to be your….” She paused again and bit her lip as she thought. “Udalii,” she said, warming his heart.

“Good because I intend on making you my wife.” He placed a gentle kiss on her lips. “There is not a single thing about you that I don’t love, even your hot temper and unpredictable demons. I want you to know that I love every part of you, not just the ones you want me to see.”

A tear trickled down her cheek, and he placed his mouth on the droplet to trap it from dripping to the sheets. Lifting his head with her tear on his lips, he stared into her caramel eyes. “Your tears are my tears, your happiness is my happiness, and your pain is my pain.”

She nodded, her lower lip trembling. “I love you, Waya. I love you so much.”

“Walela.” He kissed her lips softly. “Gvgeyui.”

Maeve danced around the circular drive while Wolf worked on the Hummer. Well, she liked to call it dancing, but she was sure soldiers everywhere would cringe if they heard her say that. Duke was doing some sort of army training thing with her where every time she moved, he’d step along with her. She loved it when he did this with her. It was like having someone so in tune with your body that they anticipated exactly what you were going to do next.

She paused and stepped wide for Duke to circle her leg and stand between them. She looked down at the dog, who was taking this far more seriously than she was. Then she gazed over at the man, who was still convinced there was another tracker somewhere on them. Wolf was like Duke in the way he instinctively understood her. It amazed her that right from the moment they met, he gave her exactly what she needed and wanted, whether she knew it or not.

“Find anything?”

“No, still nothing,” Wolf said as he pushed himself from under the vehicle.

Her heart smiled at the sight of him. “I’m telling you they put it under your skin or in your blood,” she teased and heard him laugh.

She laid her hand on her stomach and couldn’t help but smile at the thought that they could already have made a little version of them. If she was pregnant, she knew a moment of panic would hit at some point. But right now, all she had was sunshine and rainbows dancing in her mind.

“What do you think, Duke. You want to guard a baby,” she whispered, earning an adorable head twist from him. “Come on, let’s go,” she said, and Duke darted forward and turned to press himself against her leg.

“Do you want to get some lunch,” she asked Wolf as she stepped up to him, her shadow shading him from the bright sun.

She held out her hand to help Wolf up, and her body warmed as his hand slid into hers. “What kind of lunch did you have in mind,” he asked as he wrapped his arms around her body and dropped his head to her neck. She squirmed in his hold as she pictured the last few days. They’d spent most of it making love all over the small cabin. She still hadn’t gotten him to come in her mouth, but it had become a personal challenge to get him to lose control.

“I was thinking about actual food, at least for right now,” she said, smiling wide.

“Hmm, okay.” Wolf kissed the side of her neck and sucked on the skin slightly, making her squirm. “At least for now, I’m feeling a little hungry for something else.”

“I think I rubbed off on you, and you’re the one with the addiction now.” She laughed as he cupped her ass and pulled her up his body until she could wrap her legs around his waist.

“I’m only addicted to you.”

She stared into his eyes and then dropped her mouth to his. The world had tried to destroy her, but she’d fought back piece by piece, clawing and punching the whole way. As Wolf kissed her, she knew that no matter what was thrown at her, she could handle it. She lifted her head and played with his black hair, the same color as hers. It had been years since she’d seen her hair this dark.

“How about we eat first and then see where the afternoon takes us? Duke told me he’s hungry.”

Wolf laughed and looked down at the dog that was still sitting like he was on duty by their side. “Did he now? Well, we must feed the beast. He’s working very hard to keep you safe.”

Her smile slipped a little as she looked around at the thick trees surrounding the small cottage. “Do you think Duke can sense danger nearby?”
