News certainly traveled fast. He shouldn’t be shocked by now, but it was a little creepy how quickly they always found out how well a mission did or didn’t go. “Thank you. We apprehended Hammer as well as a number of others that were on lists to be picked up for lesser charges. They are all in custody now.”
“Very good work. The reason for my call is we have a new fugitive that needs to be apprehended as quickly as possible, and I have it on good authority that you’re the best.”
His chest puffed out a little with the compliment. “I’d like to think I am.”
“Good. I will send a package to your phone for you to review. Time is of the essence. We don’t want this individual slipping out of the country.”
“Understood. But is there a reason you’re the one calling?” he had to ask.
The Executive hadn’t spoken to him once since he’d joined the U.S. Marshal’s office, unless he was forced to and to the best of Wolf’s knowledge, never called any of those that were not top brass to assign a job. The only reason could be that whoever the mark was, was important, and it also meant that he wouldn’t be read in unless it became a must-know situation. The white shirts liked their secrets.
“This one is important to me. I’d consider it a huge, personal favor and one that could hold a promotion at the end if you can complete it,” Wigfield said, confirming his suspicions.
Wolf looked at the phone, not believing his ears.
“Yes, Sir. I will get right on this for you,” he said as his phone dinged, signaling that the package had arrived.
“I’ll await an update.”
The line went dead, and he tapped on the new file and scrolled through the details. His eyes finally landed on the girl. It might have been sexist of him, but he was expecting another Hammer, not a girl smiling for the camera like it was a school photo rather than a mug shot.
He placed his work phone in the holder when his off-the-books phone buzzed again, reminding him he still needed to look at it. He was pretty sure all Righteous members had two phones. It was a part of the life. As a member, everyone was required to keep communication and identity completely separate from everything else. It was an encrypted email, as was the norm with a new manhunt. The Righteous knew he preferred to arrest first and only kill those they assigned directly.
He quickly typed in the fifteen-digit password, a series of random letters and numbers, and opened the file.
“What the fuck?” His eyes scanned over the image of the same woman. He picked up his other phone and compared the two images. She looked different than in the image that Wigfield had sent. The picture from The Righteous contact looked like she’d taken a beating and managed to live to tell the tale. The sight of the bruised face with her eye almost closed tight from swelling didn’t ruin her beauty, but it did make his blood boil. No matter what she’d done, she didn’t deserve to be beaten.
“What did you do to warrant all this attention, Maeve?”
It didn’t matter.
As a U.S Marshal, his job was to apprehend, but now with the new orders from the Righteous, dead or alive was an option.
Maeve popped a cheese puff in her mouth and glanced outside at the dark nothingness. That was what happened when you traveled so far out into butt fuck nowhere that you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face.
On the plus side, as far as bus rides went, this one hadn’t been too bad. There was a guy in the back that kept trying to get the girl he was traveling with to give him head. She emphatically told him no even when he whipped his man meat out and waved it in the air. The look on her face was stellar, and when she caught me staring, I gave her a wink and smirked as her face went a violent shade of red.
His dick wasn’t that tiny, more stubby soda can over cucumber, but seeing it made it very tempting to want to go back there and push the girl out of the way. She’d have been happy to do the job for her or maybe even get her to join in. The urge was strong, her mouth was salivating at the thought, but she’d managed to keep her butt in her seat.
The little devil on her shoulder told her that there was absolutely nothing wrong with watching the show as the girl compromised and gave him a hand job until he blew his load. It only took him ten minutes to come. She totally could’ve got it done in three or less.
There’d also been an older woman who was busy knitting a few seats up as she listened to an audiobook. The woman was reciting the book word for word, which would normally be annoying but sitting in prison for months made a person appreciate the small things. Besides, getting to listen to N.V. Roez’s reverse harem book and it coming out of the mouth of a woman who looked like a little old granny was fucking awesome. Everyone who heard her stared horrified at the hot sexy scenes. One woman even moved herself and her child further up the bus. The whole situation had been priceless.
At the last stop everyone but herself and one other guy were left, making the rest of the ride very quiet. The bus stop was going to dump her in the middle of Utah at a little town that was so far off the beaten path that she wasn’t sure the town knew it even existed.
Morry was going to kill her. She’d taken a couple of days to party in Vegas, which meant playing some slots and finding a few people to fuck. It also meant not calling and checking in. It was safer not to make contact, and she had no interest in getting an ear full.
“Last stop,” the bus driver called out.
There wasn’t a light to be seen as the bus rolled to a stop in the middle of nowhere. She grabbed her backpack and walked off right behind the guy traveling alone. She kept an eye on the guy as the bus driver pulled the luggage off from underneath the big vehicle. He’d been on the bus when she hopped on and had remained quiet the entire ride. He sat with a ball cap on low and hood up, hiding most of his face.
Other than the fact he was tall with wide shoulders, she couldn’t gauge much more than that without openly staring and drawing unnecessary attention. Although she would’ve placed a hundred dollars down that he had a great package. She knew her men well enough to read their body types like a favorite book.
He barely glanced at her, which wasn’t strange. What was odd was that he kept his head down and turned away from her. He’d even gone so far as to stand his collar up on his jacket like he was from the movieDick Tracy. From what she could see, he was a piece of yummy, yum, mmm alright, but she didn’t trust a man that didn’t show their face. She didn’t trust men much at all. Especially those that acted all sly and devious.
Grabbing the duffel bag as the bus driver handed it over and made her way along the path toward the exit. Her ears tuned in to the sounds of the movement of the guy heading in the same direction. She’d rented a room at the only motel in town and figured if he didn’t get picked up when they reached the street, he would be heading the same way.
There was no car to be seen in either direction, and the main street looked like the beginning of an eerie horror movie.Texas Chain Saw Massacre, came to mind. All this place needed was the actual man with a mask, and a chain saw to complete the feel. There were four streetlights in either direction, and nothing was open. There weren’t even any lights on inside the buildings. Sure, conserving energy could be a thing in this town, but this was just creepy.
