Kes nodded toward Cody. “Who’s he?”
Trev looked up at Cody, his face that of the stone-cold killer of the Ice Man he could be. “My fiancé.”
Kes’s eyebrows shot up. “What?”
“Do you have a problem with me being in love with him?” Trev folded his hands in front of his crisp suit, his shoulders straightening as he waited for a response.
“No…I…” Kes cleared his throat. “I just didn’t think I’d ever see you, you know…shit.” Kes rubbed at his eyes and then tried again. “Sir, you and Mel were…fuck don’t make me say it.” He folded his arms over his chest, looking away from Trev’s stare.
Trev nodded, acknowledging the awkward mention of Mel and what had happened. “We all need to grow and move on Kes, maybe one day you will too.”
“Only the devil dances on my doorstep.”
Trev sighed, he wasn’t going to change Kes’s mind, and it wasn’t his place to help him if he didn’t want help. His hand had already been smacked more than once for thinking that it was his responsibility to fix Kes.
“So, what do you say, Kes, are you in?”
“For Morry, I’m always in. What do you need me to do?”
