Trev grabbed the scotch to pour himself another glass. “I thought I just explained my reasons?”

Cody wandered around the desk and knelt down beside him, placing his hand on his arm. “No, why are you putting these walls up again? Why are you freezing Arek out, but more importantly, why are you freezing me out?”

“I’m not. You already did that on your own.” Trev pushed his chair back and stood to put space between them. “You’ve made it clear where we stand.”

“Are you talking about me staying in the spare room? I had to do that. I was a wreck, and I didn’t want you seeing me like that. Having to console me constantly, I…I just needed some space, to pull myself together.” Cody slowly stood and stepped toward him.

“That hurt, yes, but what I’m talking about is the look in your eyes. The anger and hate I see in them.” He looked away from Cody as emotions bubbled to the surface.

Why couldn’t he have just left the fucking room?

“I’m sorry Ray got killed, I really am, and I will do what I can to at least bring him justice, but I can’t have anyone else look at me like that. I’ve shouldered the blame for too many deaths.—I’m at my limit. Please just go.” Trev made his way to the center of the room, unable to look at Cody.

“I don’t blame you. Is that really what you think?”

“Fine, if you won’t leave, I will.” Trev marched for his door, but Cody leaped over the desk and darted in front of him, his back pressed to the door. “Get out of my way.”

“No.”

He threatened. “Get out of my way, Cody. Don’t make me remove you.”

“I’m not moving until you hear me out,” Cody said stubbornly.

“Why are you doing this to me? Can’t you see this is hard enough? Do you hate me that much?” Trev clenched his fists, his anger and pain breaking free of its cage.

Taking him by surprise, Cody pushed off the door and grabbed his face—his silver eyes fierce with emotion. “I don’t hate you. I’m fucking in love with you,” he said a moment before their lips crashed together.

Trev’s entire being felt scrambled and thrown into a blender as his body responded, lighting up with the feel of Cody touching him. Meanwhile, his brain raced to keep up with this sudden change of events. Cody’s words were slowly seeping into the deep recesses of his conscious. Breaking the kiss, Cody pulled him tight against his body as he laid soft kisses along his neck.

“Did you hear me?” Cody whispered in his ear.

He had to push the fog in his brain aside to try and think straight. “I don’t understand.”

“I was blaming myself. I needed time to process my role in Ray’s death.”

“Then why push me away when I tried to reach out to you?”

“I’m sorry. I’m not used to having someone in my life to lean on, to count on, to share anything with, especially my emotions.”

Trev closed his eyes and pulled Cody into him. The crushing weight that had been hanging around his neck lifting. He’d been so certain that Cody blamed him. “But why—.” Cody laid a finger on his lips, stopping the question.

“Later, I will try to explain everything later, but right now, I’m going to walk over to the door and lock it. Then you’re going to get out of these clothes so I can fuck you over your desk the way I’ve been dreaming of since I first saw you sitting there.”

“You think so, do you?”

“I know so, and you know what else I know?”

“What’s that?” Trev asked.

“You’re going to submit to me, and you’re going to do so willingly.” Cody grabbed his ass and gave it a squeeze, his finger rubbing up and down the crack. “This ass is mine,” Cody bit out possessively. Trev shuddered with Cody’s words, heat spreading throughout his body. “Please, I need this. I’m sorry I locked myself away. I shouldn’t have done it, but I need you more than I ever thought possible. I felt lost without you.”

Trev’s eyes locked with Cody’s earnest gaze, and he knew before he opened his mouth that he wouldn’t deny him. He never wanted to deny him anything.

“Then what are you waiting for?” He smiled before their lips met again.

Cody hadn’t been joking about bending Trev over his desk. It had been a fantasy the moment he laid eyes on the large table and the man that sat behind it.

He couldn’t get to the door fast enough to lock it. His heart was speeding so quickly. He thought he might pass out before he got to see Trev naked. He’d never meant to hurt Trev, and as Cody turned and stared at the man, he methodically took off his cufflinks. Trev was an island in the storm, the calm and steady that everyone instinctively gathered around. Cody’s eyes traced Trev’s precise movements and smirked—he now understood the cool quirk that was only one layer to the complex man.
