Thea wanted to tell him that things didn’t have to end, that he was choosing this end. But she didn’t want to beg. She was already humiliated enough by the events of the evening.
He isn’t going to change his mind.
“Go, then,” she said.
“Thea—”
“Just go.”
He hesitated a moment longer, then turned and walked out the door.
Thea was in shock. Her whole life had fallen apart so quickly, with almost no warning. When she had awoken this morning, everything had been fine. More than fine. It had been amazing. She had been planning her future with the guy she loved, confident in the next four years of their lives together at college.
Now all of that was gone.
He’s right. It’s my fault. How could I have let my grades slip at the last minute like that? I’ve ruined everything. Now Iowa State is my only choice—and he doesn’t love me enough to come with me.
