“We’ve got our safety school,” he said.

It was true. They had both applied to Iowa State University as a backup, and Thea consoled herself with that thought. They’d already received their acceptances there. I’ve already gotten into college. I’ve already gotten into the same school as Rob. Whatever happens now, everything is going to be fine.

It embarrassed her a little that being with Rob was so important to her. After three years of prioritizing her academics, now, in the eleventh hour, she was prioritizing a guy.

But she’d never imagined that a guy would make her feel like this.

He took the slushy and set it aside, and then he eased her back so they were lying against the windshield. He rolled so that he was half on top of her, his ankle hooking over hers, and captured her mouth in a kiss.

And, as she always did, Thea allowed her anxieties to be driven away by the very nearness of him.

How could she worry about anything when she was with Rob? How could she feel anxiety about her future when she knew that he would always be there with her?
