“Skye?” Graham’s voice comes from the door. Dread coils in my stomach. Did he hear what went on in here. “I made dinner. Do you want some?”

I pick myself off the floor, nodding my head. “That sounds nice.” I shove down my feelings and join the guys downstairs, like it never happened. Like I didn’t feel my soul link up with Lukas in the most earth-shattering sex I’d ever had and that scared me more than anything. Offering Lukas a piece of me would only result in making me a broken mess.

CHAPTER FORTY-NINE

Salem

Headmaster Hayden was fifteen minutes late and counting. I really should have brought my pillow with me, I think as I shift in the god awful chair. Fucking sadist.

I’d been able to stop by the school store earlier this morning and grab a few new school outfits. I mourned the loss of my fishnet stockings, wishing I could individualize the monotony of this boring uniform. I pop a piece of gum, grateful to replenish my stash.

“Ms. Knox.” Hmm twenty-two minutes late, I guess that’s an improvement. It’s on the tip of my tongue to spit out exactly what I’m thinking, but I refrain, deciding he’s not worth the headache.

“Headmaster.”

“Well, the fire department has come back with some leads regarding your room fire and I’m afraid it’s looking grim.” He sits in his chair, his jowls shaking with each word he utters.

“How do you mean?”

“Well, they did mention possible arson.”

“Arson?” I screech. “How is that possible. Both Skye and I were dead asleep.”

“So you say.”

“Sir? Are you seriously accusing me of setting my own room on fire?”

“People would do a lot less to be moved into a house full of, oh what are all the ladies calling them now, hotties?”

I stand gathering my things, feeling my anger rise. It was one thing to hear those rumors floating around school, but to hear it from your headmaster?

“We didn’t start that fire.”

“Well, since there’s no proof, no charges have been filed… yet.”

“Charges?”

“Yes, you can’t just go about setting rooms on fire without consequences.”

“We didn’t-“

“Yes, yes. I heard you. Now, as for the other matter I called you in here about, I wanted to remind you that your presence is required at the alumni ball this Saturday.”

Shit, I’d forgotten all about that.

“You really want the girl you’re accusing of arson to attend the alumni ball.”

He levels me with a glare. “We will be seeing you this Saturday. And Ms. Knox, it’s a masquerade, so dress appropriately.”

I storm out of his office. How fucking dare he? He’d basically said he believed Skye and I had intentionally set a fire to our room. Like a bunch of Hell House groupies. Fuck.

My Converse slap loudly against the marble floor with each frustrated step I take.

I round the corner, frown pulling at my brow, when I see Pierce striding up the hallway. It hits me that this is exactly how we met, and I wonder why the hell he’s here seeing the headmaster.

“Beautiful, where you off to this morning.”

“Not now Pierce, I have class.” He wraps his hand around my wrist and spins me into him easily, placing his nose in my hair. I wore it down today, with a few beach waved curls to frame my face.
