“So…” I venture, rubbing the stubble that’s coming in on my chin.
“Shut up, this is all your fault.”
“My fault?”
“Yes you! Irritating me and distracting me from the project! Now we lost valuable time to work on a huge part of our grade.”
“Relax princess, we have plenty of time.” I bop the back of the chair with my hands before I push myself up to standing, spinning the chair back to the proper place. I grab my bag then stride toward the archway doors.
“How can you be so dismissive?” She says her shoes clipping fast behind me. I catch the scowl of the librarian on our way passed her desk.
“How can you be this uptight?”
“I am not uptight.”
I hold the door open for her to which she squints her eyes at me before walking through in a huff. I follow after her towards the dorms even though it’s in the opposite direction from Hell House.
“You are. Is that why you reacted the way you did when Javelynn suggested we fuck each other?”
She turns on her heel to face me, but I’m closer than she anticipated because I smack right into her by her abrupt change in direction.
“Fuck!” Her purse of death gouged my arm. “Why do you have this thing? It’s a weapon.”
“I did warn you that I would hit you with this the next time you tried to touch me. Also, not that it’s your business but I have it to keep people like you away.”
“I didn’t try to touch you, you changed directions and hit me. Besides, why would you want to keep me away when you’re so obviously drawn to me.”
“Get over yourself Pierce. I would never be drawn to someone who spends more time looking in the mirror than on their homework assignments.”
“So, you think I’m good looking?”
She rolls her eyes then turns to start walking again, shoving her hands into her skirt pockets.
“The problem with people like you, is that you know you’re good looking and you think the world should bow at your feet for just gracing us with your genetic lottery face.”
“There’s nothing wrong with being born beautiful. I just happen to be blessed that way, and also I hate to break it to you, but I spend equal amounts of time in front of the mirror and on my homework. Guess that means you can allow yourself to admit you’re into me.”
“Never.” She trudges along the path her shoulders set near her ears, her footsteps stomp at the gravel with each step.
“Why are you following me? Isn’t your house that way?” She points in the direction of the woods.
I tsk, “You’re not doing a good job of convincing me that you’re not into me since you know where I live.”
“Everyone knows where you live Pierce. That doesn’t prove that I’m into you.”
I reach out and grab her elbow, spinning her into me, careful not to impale myself on her Medieval torture purse. “Maybe not, but everything else about you gives you away.”
Her body is pressed against mine, molding perfectly to me, she lets out a small shuddering breath of surprise. “What gives you away, little witch, are your eyes. The way they dilate when you look at me, like you’re undressing me in that wicked little head of yours.” I trail my fingers down her spine and feel her arch up into me. “Your breathing hitches just a little when you talk to me, which means you either have asthma, or I make you nervous. And one other thing?” I glance down at her lips, noticing her tongue flicking out across her bottom lip. “You’re fucking shaking in my arms.”
She sets her jaw, her brows pulling down into a frown before she pushes her hand against my chest, taking a step back. “That’s because it’s cold outside.”
“And the other things?”
“You’re clearly delusional.”
I let out a laugh, something about her spunk has me intrigued.
“You’re clearly in denial.”
