“Yeah, just random shit floating around in my head. West knows all about it, don’t you, honey?”
Why the fuck did I just call West 'honey'? I’ve never called him 'honey.' Then, it smacks me like a wrecking ball. The taller paramedic was flirting with him and touching his shoulder. I got jealous. I gotreallyjealous, and 'honey' was my claim on him. He smirked back, reading my mind and seeing straight through my thoughts.
“Okay, I don’t think it’s too much to be concerned about, but we do need you to come to the hospital to run some tests. Your blood pressure is low, but your heart rate is good, and your temperature is perfect. I don’t want to put this down to stress right now just in case there is something else going on.
“Any chance you can take us to St. Thomas rather than City General?” West asks. The paramedics look at each other and then back to West. “That’s where our family doctors are,” he continues.
“Yeah, no problem. We’ll call ahead and let them know Sutton is on her way.” And with that, I’m up in the ambulance and on my way, lights flashing and sirens blaring.
I look to West. “Can you tell them to turn them off, please? It is giving me flashbacks.”
The paramedic travelling in the back relays the message and looks closer at me. “You’re Sutton Smith, the girl that was kidnapped, right?”
West face turns a really bad shade of red. “Mind your own business, please. Do your job and don’t ask fucking personal questions. Don’t you think this situation is bad enough without busybodies like you thinking you know shit when you don’t?”
His voice is angry. I’ve never heard him talk like that before. I take his hand and gently squeeze. “It’ll be okay. I’ll be okay, I promise. It is just stress.”
The ambulance stops, the doors open, and we go in through reception.
“Doctor Jameson is waiting for you,” the lady at the desk says.
Hey, this isn’t bad, I think. No waiting with the drunks in A & E.
A nurse greets us and, just as we are about to walk into the room, West disappears. I turn to look at him, and I see him hand the paramedic a piece of paper. She smiles and leaves.
My head is off again. I need to know what that was. As if he knows, he grabs my hand. “I apologised to the paramedic for yelling at her. I gave her a code to use on the website for free flowers for a year.”
This man just kills me. Every time I think he is betraying me or doing something wrong, it’s me that’s wrong.
The nurse runs all the tests again and takes what feels like half my blood. Doctor Jameson wants everything tested to make sure I’ve not got any kind of infection known to man.
“You can go and get something to eat from the cafeteria if you like. The results will take about two hours,” the nurse says as she holds the consulting room door open. Yeah, it’s not an 'if you like' it’s a very polite 'get out and don’t come back for two hours' type of statement.
West and I are sitting, each with a coffee, and I’m snuggled into his shoulder nearly falling asleep when the nurse comes in. “Your results are back, and Doctor Jameson is ready to see you.”
I take a seat in one of the very nice comfy chairs as West pulls the other one so it’s right next to me. I think he’s expecting bad news or something. He has that look on his face, the worry lines on his forehead and a vein on his neck is pulsing.
“Okay, I can see West is anxious, so I’m going to get straight to it. You’re fine, Sutton. There is absolutely nothing wrong with you.”
West lets out the biggest sigh I’ve ever heard, and he squeezes my hand, looking straight into my eyes.
“Nothing that about another seven months won’t fix, anyway,” the doctor quips.
“What? What do you mean?” West asks. “You said she was fine. What do we need to wait seven months for?” As he’s asking the questions, the penny drops for me.
Shit!
“A baby, West. Sutton is pregnant. We think about six to eight weeks, but we won’t be able to give an accurate date until we’ve done an ultrasound.”
West is on his feet, and then there is a really loud crash. Yep, he’s out cold.
What a fucking day.

Well,Ijustmadea complete tit of myself. The panic when I heard seven months just threw me. All I could think of was chemo or treatment. I never thought of Sutton being pregnant.
