“Oh, West…” She pouts and smiles a vile smile. She then pops out lock picking tools and winks. “I wanted to see you. I’ve missed you the last few days, and I wanted to see if I could change your mind.” She’s on the move, standing up off the stool. Standing tall in front of me, she starts to open up her coat.

“Oh, no, no, Alicia. Please stop. I am not interested in you. The only person I am interested in is in my bed asleep. Now, if you don’t mind, I would like you to get the fuck out of my apartment before I call the police. And for fuck’s sake, close your coat. What you have under there is of no interest to me whatsoever.” I’m really fucking mad, but I’m trying to keep my voice down. I don’t want Sutton waking up to this.

“You really are a stupid man, West; she is playing you, and you can’t see it. She’s lying to you, West. No one is that needy.”

“I’m sorry, am I disturbing something?” a voice comes from behind me.

“Sutton, this is not what it looks like” I’m trying to explain, but, shit, I know exactly what this looks like, and it doesn’t look good at all. I just keep looking between the two of them.

“I think you should leave right fucking now…” Sutton spits, “…before I make you.”

Well, that shocked me. She’s hobbling but walking tall right towards Alicia. I stop flicking between the two of them and stand in Sutton’s way.

“Thanks babe, but she was already leaving. Right now!” I stare at Alicia, and she saunters over to the door and closes it behind her. I need to get better locks and some chains on these doors first thing in the morning. This shit can’t happen again, and I don’t want Alicia, or anyone else for that matter, getting in here again.

I turn around, but Sutton has gone. She’s in bed but in her own room and turned on her side so I can’t see her face.

“Can we talk about this tomorrow?” I ask. I need to get my gun put away and tidy up the office before she sees what I’ve been doing.

“Yeah, tomorrow. Night, West.”

I close the door and walk back to the office. I put everything away, and I head for bed. My head is spinning, but I’m completely wrung out. My eyes close, and I fall into a deep sleep the minute my head hits the pillow.

Chapter 25

Sutton

He’sgonetobed.I need to pack enough stuff to get me through a few days at least.

Grabbing anything I can find that will fit into my purse, I stuff everything in. I give it a few more minutes and wash down a couple more painkillers. I’m going to need them now more than ever.

I’m out of the door and down the elevator in only a few minutes. I don’t know where the hell I’m going to go. Kara has her niece, and I understand, but I’m going to need to call a favour in. I need somewhere safe and away from this fucking player. I was in the fucking bedroom, and he had another woman in the living room in her underwear. And not just another woman. Miss Chocolate Hair, herself! I can’t live like that. I don’t need to be feeling all jealous over someone, and I don’t want to be living with my boss.

Oh, shit. I’m not going to be able to work with him now. Things have gone too far. He probably sleeps with everyone at the office, and I’m just one of a few.

I flag down a cab and head over to Kara’s. Her lights are all off, but itis2:00 a.m. I ring her phone and knock on the door simultaneously.

Five minutes later I’m sitting on her couch—sans niece—with a cup of tea and my best friend telling me why she lied to me. What I don’t understand is why he wanted me to stay with him when he has women all over him 24/7. Kara didn’t have much info on the matter, and she doesn’t understand the two women in two days either.

Morning breaks and I wake up next to a very loud snoring Kara.

God, this girl is loud.

I pull out my phone and realise I’m not just checking the time but checking for missed calls or texts.

It’s only 7:00 a.m., so there is a good chance he hasn’t woken up yet. By 10:00 a.m., I have thirty-seven missed calls and so many texts that I haven’t read yet. I can’t bring myself to read them. I know I will respond and, with how I’m feeling right now, it would probably be very counterproductive.

Kara’s phone is to the side, and it starts to vibrate. It’s West. She also has several missed calls and a few texts. He is obviously worried. I can feel myself starting to weaken.

Oneside of my head says,“Hmmm, should I send him an ‘I’m alright’ text?”

“No! Fuck him,”the other side of my head shouts. “He’s fucking played you all along. A blonde on the internet and then Miss Chocolate Hair in her undies in his living room? Does he think you’re stupid and easy?”

Well, I will prove to that bastard that I am indeed a strong and independent woman who does not need a man. For anything.

Ah man, my stuff is all at his place. This is so complicated.

Kara wakes up and after a few more cups of tea and a few more tear-filled tissues, I’m ready to sort out my life
